The lessons tackled were gas laws and biomolecules. In gas laws, I am now
knowledgeable about the physical properties of gases. It covers the kinetic
molecular theory, types of collisions specifically elastic and inelastic, and the
characteristics of ideal and real gases. Also, the different laws of gases such as
Boyles, Charles, Daltons, Grahams, and Lusaccs were explained. These laws
explain the relationship of mass, pressure, volume and temperature to each other
which are very helpful in everyday life. Estimating the amount of ventilation a
building needs for human use and cabin pressurization in airplanes are just
examples of everyday use of gas laws. Furthermore, the four main classes of
biomolecules, protein, nucleic acids, carbohydrates and lipids were taught. Here, we
differentiated the four, determined their monomer, and learned their functions, etc.
What Ive learned is not just about the topic itself but also its importance in our
lives. Biomolecules are important because they control every aspect of living
organisms. If a person is deficient even with just one biomolecule, his or her body
wont function properly because of the insufficiency of that biomolecule. I am now
aware of my food because I dont want to risk my health just because of gluttony.
I had a hard time on the Standard Pressure and Temperature (STP) part
because of the computations and all. When my classmate made it clear for me, I
can now solve STP problems without difficulty.
Every time I step in Chemistry class, I exit with knowledge and understanding
about my surroundings. Its like uncovering the secrets that wrap the history of
creation. Even with just simple lessons like gas laws and biomolecules, I feel like I
will be meeting soon the new secret waiting to be discovered.
I hope that I wont forget what Ive learned in Chemistry because this subject
taught me not just the lessons themselves but also about life. At first, I thought it
will be boring but my teacher proved to me that I was wrong in an indirect way. She
teaches her student with passion, in a manner that just a few teachers are teaching
nowadays.
