Dear Respected All,

Many thanks for your effort to take the quiz. Do keep up the good performance & cheers.
Solution Guide to Q2 for CA3 (by Ng YK):
Assumptions:
1. The air in the piston-cylinder assembly is the closed system.
2. The expansion and compression processes are adiabatic.
3. Kinetic and potential energy effects are negligible.
4. The working fluid is air modelled as an ideal gas.
5. All processes are internally reversible. (15 marks)

Comments: The new Atkinson cycle here has the same compression ratio for process 1-2
as for the Otto cycle. But the isentropic expansion (3-4) has a much higher volume ratio
than for the original Otto cycle.

So the work and thermal efficiency increase for the Atkinson as evidenced by the larger
enclosed p-v area. Hence, the mean effective pressure reduces (QED).
