Social Action Production Proposal

Name of production

More Equal

Reason for following this issue

Racial inequality is a concept that has been so brushed over as of late, because a lot
of people believe that it no longer exists. And being from the United Kingdom a lot of
people believe, that America, or some eastern European countries are really racists
now a days. Though the issue is that Britain is covertly racist, or maybe even
subconsciously.

Length of production
10 to 15 minutes

Interviewees in production

(High Wycombe) Citizen Advice Bureau

Mayor of High Wycombe

Director of WREC

Production angle, how and why

Thats why rather than changing peoples idea on the subject we aim to educate the
viewer on the subject, because we believe this is one of the greatest steps towards
equality.
We will achieve this by first informing the viewer on how the idea of race began, what
racism actually is and how it is not just shouting derogatory terms at a racial group

A production layout (beginning, middle and end)

Opening:
We will achieve this by first informing the viewer on how the idea of race began, what
racism actually is and how it is not just shouting derogatory terms at a racial group.
How race has impacted the wellbeing of people historically on a community level,
any key moments which standout of racial injustice, statistics on the population
percentage of each race which populate the area, and if there has been as prior
effort to bring the issue to the fore front.

Middle:

The citizen advice bureau will be interviewed, to gain insight on how people are
discriminated at work, and the statistics of the people racially discriminated in the
work place. A member of staff can be followed and can show us the steps they are
making to help solve this aspect of racial inequality.
The Mayor will be interviewed, in order to gain insight on how he views the current
situation of racial equality in the community, why he believes that it is still prevalent in
the area if he believes it is still there, and what steps he is trying to combat the issue, in
order to make the town in which he governs a more pleasant
Interviewing the public to understand the general consensus on the topic.

End:

Give the viewers steps they can make to help the issue such as, thinking about what
stereotypes about a person or group may have, and ways you may be discriminating.
That you must understand your feelings before you can address them.
And also Educate yourself. By reading as much as you can about race relations, white
privilege, and ways to reduce racism. Through reading books, listening to music, and
watching movies about other cultures as well. And how it helps to learn about the
history of the culture and current happenings. Also listening to other people talk about
their experiences with racism.

Target Audience and why

10 to 30 year olds of both genders and all backgrounds. The reason this will be our
target audience is because any people older than that we feel they are more set in
their ways and it would be harder for us to change their perspective. Whereas the
younger generation are more open minded so we will be able to connect with them
and enlighten them from a different perspective. We decided on 10 as we feel this is
the age where they will be able to understand what is going on, but not any younger.

Where your video will be uploaded / shown

On YouTube and websites. It will be shown at school assemblys and workplaces so as
out target audience will be able to watch it.

Copyright issues / legal ethical issues you may face

Some European groups might feel as if they are being targeted for things that happened in
the past, but we cannot move forward unless we not just know but understand what
happened in the past and why it happened. Also no matter what we are told by the media
about advancements in racial equality we have made, that fact still exists that racism is still
very much alive.

Whilst creating the documentary we must find a way to keep it unbiased, and avoid
plastering our opinion on the issue, though it important that the viewer also understands our
views on the issue. Its also crucial that we gain permission to film people for the interviews for
legal privacy laws sake.

Production

Before you go off and film please be aware of the following.

PRODUCTION TIPS:

Interview in relevant locations

Make sure there is no background noise when filming - ask to turn off all machines or film in a
quiet location and if outside try and use a wind cover and microphone.

Use TWO cameras when filming - One following the interviewer and one following you as you
had with your multi camera unit

Get MORE footage than you need - you can always cut items out but you can't add once
you have filmed

Think about how you want the final product to look before you start filming

Add archive footage (clips, newspaper clippings, footage from news stories etc...) but
ALWAYS reference them on screen and make sure you have permission to use them

Once filming is finished make sure the following is complete BEFORE you start to edit your
production
