LITERATURE REVIEW

1. Filipe Perez, Julio Freitas Custodio, Vitor Grillo de souza, Homero Krauss Ribeiro
Filho, Edison Massao Motoki and Paulo Fernando Ribeiro (2015) in their research
Application of Energy Storage Elements on a System in the smart Grid context
developed a computational model of 100 kW photovoltaic systems with storage elements for
the uniform supply of power. The fluctuations are reduced by monitoring and controlling the
battery.

2. Ganesh Kumar Venayagamoorthy, Ratnesh K.Sharma, Prajwal K.Gautam and Afshin

Ahmadi (2016) in their paper Dynamic Energy Management System for a Smart
Microgrid presents the development of an intelligent dynamic energy management system
for smart micro grids. Uncertainty of Renewable energy source (Wind and solar) has been
overcome using this intelligent system.

3. Jin-hee LEE,Joon-young CHOI,Jae-hong LEE, Ui-kwon SON and Jeon-min LEE

(2012) in their research Grid Energy Storage System for Smart-Renewable developed a
Energy storage system consist of Power conditioning system, Energy storage system and Energy
management system. Their proposed method has obtained 93.5 % efficiency with power factor higher
than 0.97.

4. Joelle Klaimi, Leila Merghem-Boulahia, Rana Rahim-Amoud and Akil Jrad (2015) , in
their work An Energy management approach for smart grids using Intelligent storage
systems proposed a novel agent-based energy management algorithm in the integrated
renewable energy sources and obtained a 90% fall in the energy purchase cost.

5. Ke Jia, Bohan Liu, Mineze Iyogun and Tianshu Bi (2014) in their research on Smart
Control for Battery Energy Storage System in a Community Grid came up with an
Adaptive Intelligent Technique on system variables for efficient power management. They
obtained a maximum of 41% energy improvement by their proposed algorithm.

6. Manuela Sechilariu, Baochao Wang and Fabrice Locment (2013) conducted a analysis on
Building Integrated Photovoltaic System with Energy Storage and Smart Grid
Communication proposed a smart grid communication method and also developed a
hierarchical control design that permits messages from and into the smart grid channel. From
their experiments, they infer that the system is able to maintain stable operation and response
to the grid limits.

7. Matthew Clayton Such and Cody Hill (2012) in the research on Batter Energy Storage
and Wind Energy Integrated into the Smart Grid found that the Integration of Energy
storage systems into the Smart Grid with control features improves the reliability and also
enables effective grid management. They also investigated that the operational issues raised
by the variability in the Wind power generation can be mitigated by employing Battery
Energy storage systems.

8. Pedro Crespo Del Grando, Zhan Pang and Stein W.Wallace (2016) in their research
Synergy of smart grids and hybrid distributed generation on the value of energy
storage designed a valuation model for end user energy storage in smart grids. They also
developed a battery and thermal storage system which provides flexibility to CHP operations
and wind surplus. From their work, they achieved around 10% cost saving by the storage
units.

9. Ryan Elliman , Christopher Gould and Moofik Al-Tai (2015) conducted a study entitled
Review of Current and Future Electrical Energy Storage Devices. In their study they
compare the different energy storage technologies currently available and also state how
these storage devices used in various applications. They also state that Energy storage
devices within the power grids also provide a vital role in matching electric power generation
to the demand.

10. Steven Wong and Jean-Paul Pinard (2017), in their study Opportunities for Smart
Electric Thermal Storage on Electric Grids with Renewable Energy presented a
methodology to evaluate the use of Electric Thermal Storage (ETS) with hydro-electric and
wind resources to meet load growth in isolated grids. Their proposed methid is found to be
effective in consuming less fuel.

11. Wei-Yu Chiu, Hongjian Sun and Vincent Poor.H (2012) in their work Demand Side
Energy Storage System Management in Smart Grid developed a design in which the
battery can be charged during a low-price period while being discharged during a high-price
period for cost control.
