Tuanku Sultanah Bahiyah Polytechnic (PTSB), formerly known as the Polytechnic
Kulim, is that the 16 polytechnics under the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia.

In Kedah, Tuanku Sultanah Bahiyah Polytechnic (PTSB) is the second of

polytechnics after Polytechnic Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah in Jitra.

we have done survey the problems faced by students in PTSB, the biggest problems
faced by PTSB students is financial problems.

EFFECT OF THE
PROBLEM
Students usually be careless about time, especially time management. They ended
with improper individual time management results in bad habits such as delaying
assignment, not reviewing lessons, and burning midnight oil.

First, they are delaying assignment to do other interesting one such as playing
game, watching movies, and sleeping. Without they realized, they spent time to
useless things and ended with copying assignment from others or plagiarizing it
because they have not enough time to finish it. They could not choose between what
they must do now because it have deadline and what they can do it later after they
task was finished. They had failed in prioritizing.

Second, they are not study more by reviewing lessons, so they are have no
preparation for next session. They finally just memorize the subject materials without
understand anything. This is will be influence they study behaviours. It is just like
they start form nothing when they start the lesson. However, if they reviewing the
lesson after school and they understood the subject, they will have some knowledge
to be expanding for next session.

Finally, after delaying the assignment and not reviewing lessons, they may be in
burn midnight oil state when exam period come closer. Burn midnight oil means the
condition when someone study hard in very limited deadline. For example, they will
study all chapters in that subject tonight, when they knew the exam will execute due
tomorrow. This is might good choice, but just for those that always reviewing the
lesson. Study hard all chapters in one night is not really effective to be study method
because it is really hard to memorize all in one night and by doing this they will waste
their energy finally make they easily tired and could not concentrate at all. They just
memorized half or less the materials subject.

HOW TO OVERCOME
THE PROBLEMS?
First, students have to allocate their time for studying. To manage their study time,
they have to consider the amount, deadline and difficulty of homework that they have
to finish each week and month.

Planning is the listing of the tasks and establishing a time line that includes each
task. Planning involves other variables like budgeting, availability of resources,
originality, data analysis methods, and puts them on a timely basis.

Planning usually starts by thinking about the goals and priorities. It could actually be
completed in the mind. However, most experts strongly recommend that student
formalize the plan in writing to avoid forgetting something.

Student can start your day by preparing a do-list for the day and set priority to each
task. This do-list will motivate student to remember their responsibilities that must be
carried out during the day. Items that you could not complete one day can be the
starting work of the next day. A good advantage of a do-list is that it will give a
chance to evaluate their progress.

Second, scheduling is deciding when to spend the times student estimated on the
tasks. Research needs concentration and continuity. Students are dealing with
several different activities. Try to schedule the research activities nto days or time-
slots you are most likely to have minimum concentration distorts or disturbance.

Next, periodic revising of student goals and tasks, plans and schedules is necessary.
Revising is needed to compare your goals and objectives with your performance,
and to see if you are proceeding as scheduled. If you have fallen behind the
schedule, revise it.
