A cluster commander for all Police stations in the Tubatse Cluster has been appointed.

and the media, the Deputy Provincial Commissioner: Policing in Limpopo, Major General
Benny Ntlemeza, told guests in the municipal council chamber in Burgersfort on
Wednesday that the Police in Tubatse now have all the tools to fight crime in the area
effectively, telling station commanders that the new cluster commander, Brigadier Sylvia
Ledwaba, “is your mother”. The general said Police in the area should give particular
attention to certain aspects of Police work in the area, such as door-to-door campaigns to
involve and educate residents about the fighting of crime and how to walk the straight an
narrow path. He also told local Police to erradicate illegal drinking holes and the illegal
selling of liquor.
He also said that more foot patrols in urban areas such as Burgersfort is neccessary to
increase the visibility and effectiveness of the Police in the area. H stressed that

Youth Day Lecture in Ga-Madiseng

The Limpopo Youth Commission hosted the annual Youth Day Lecture at Nthame School in Ga-
Madiseng near Burgersfort last week Thursday. The welcome address was delivered by Greater
Tubatse Muiciplity Mayor, Ralepane Mamekoa, while the lecture was given by Limpopo MEC for
Health and Social Development, Ms Meriam Segabutla (photograph right). Although the cold had an
influence on attendance, quite a number of youths attended.

Rehabilitation of road started

The badly potholed road between Steelpoort and the R37 road between Burgersfort and Lydenburg
is in the process of being rehabilitated, which is a welcome relief for daily travellers on this road. At
this stage work is only being done between the Lydenburg Road and the first bridge to Steelpoort,
but even the tempoarary road at the waiting area is better than what motorists were used to during

Will the real ANCYL please stand up? The Subregional Council of the ANC Youth League
(ANCYL) under the leadership of Mr Nicholas
Selala held a meeting at the CN Pathudi Campus
of the Sekhukhune FET College in Praktiseer last
week on Saturday, adopting various resolutions.
But the problems in the ANCYL did not escape
this organisation locally. Another grouping uinder
the leadership of Mr Mankgase Mashabela, says,
no, Mr Selala’s group cannot be the ANCYL in
Tubatse, because Mr Selala has been suspended.
Mr Selala said Tubatse regions was
representted at his meeting in Praktiseer (where
the photograph was taken). He denied that he has
been formally suspended, saying he did receive no
letter or communication of suspension and that the
conference that was held locally a couple of weeks
ago, was not legal, as al structures in Tubatse did
not attend. Instead, 457 delegates attended the
meeting on Saturday and all structures was
present. Preparations are now made for a
conference where everybody will be represented.
He also told Platinum gazette that the meeting
on Saturday accepted a vote of no confidence in the
ANC’s sub-regional secretary, Mr Lemon Phala as
Mr Phala, who is dividing the youth.
Contacted for his comment, Mr Phala said the
problems the ANCYL have locally is not his fault as
he regard it as a fall-out the ANCYL Makhado
Congress which led to the organisation’s problems
on a national level. This problems are also now
addressed on a national level. He stressed that the
ANCYL is a autonomous structure within the ANC
and that he as sub-regional secretary of the ANC
does not meddle in their affairs. “The ANC has its
own programme apart form the ANCYL. We are
now focusing on next year’s election and the re-
alignment of branches in accordance with new
wards” he said.

New CPF
structures elected

On 30 June the Tubatse Police launced the Community Policing Forum (CPF) in Ward
24. This includes Pidima, Mabocha and Ga Makofane. The committee elected were: Linda
Mashego (chairperson), Petrus Moima (deputy chairperson), Mable Magabe (secretary),
Athana Makofane (deputy secretary), Aaron Molapo (treasurer) and additional members
Divy Matlou, Violet Mohlala, Chillies Lepelle and Klenkie Kgwedi. In Ward 20 the CPF
was launched on 2 July with their committee being: Jane Mashego (chairperson), William
Molobela (deputy chairperson), Erens Mokhawa (secretary), Judas Selahle (deputy
secretary), Simon Komane (treasurer) with additional members Sam Paile, Elizabeth
Malapane, Robias Selahle and Julia Moropane.

Rape suspect arrested

A 19-year old man was arrested on 8 July.
The crime happened on 7 July at Ga Mashamothane. According to the police
dockets, the suspect forced his girlfriend to have intercourse with him. She reported
it to the Tubatse police who arrested the man.
He appeared in the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court on 12 July and was not granted
bail. He was due to appear in court again soon.

Soccer smiles
and sorrow
Soccer fans packed the Ntwampe public viewing area again last weekend as the World Cup
drew to an end. A programme filled with entertainment and most importantly the
screening of the soccer matches took place on Saturday and Sunday. Security was once
again tight to make sure no criminal activities will take place. South Africans can now
with a smile say that they successfully hosted the tournament, but for many it was a sad
moment to realise that it is now all over.

Die Op-en-Wakker Groep vir Bejaardes op
Ohrigstad het Woensdag ‘n konsert by die
Potgietersaal net buite die dorp gehou.
Bejaardes van die hele area het die oggend
bygewoon en sommer ook deelgeneem.
Ds. Riaan Botha van die Hervormde Kerk
op Tubatse het die oggend geopen. Al die nie-
bederfbare goedere wat die oggend ingesamel
is, word aan die kerk gegee om na Zimbabwe
te neem. Die Lydenburg Diensentrum vir
Bejaardes se slagorkes het ‘n item gelewer
en hulle het ook ‘n toneelstuk waarvoor hulle
by ‘n kultuurfees medaljes ontvang het,
opgevoer. Daar is ook solo sangitems gelewer.
Die Ohrigstad groep het ‘n toneel wat deur
me. Elsie Riekert verwerk is, opgevoer.
Na die konsert is daar heerlik aan sop en
tuisgebakte brood gesmul. Die Op-en-
Wakker Groep het almal bedank vir hul
ondersteuning en bydraes tot die sukses van
die oggend.

History made at
Steelpoort Academy
On 5 May the boys played an unforgettable soccer
match against the boys of Calvin College. The game was
long, hard and due to the fact that we were not as fit
as we thought we were, very tiring. We thoroughly
enjoyed the day and we realized that we actually do have more
talent than we thought we had. The final score was 1 - 1. We
hope that this was the first of many such opportunities. Thank
you to Mam Maki and Tshepo Sekgogoba who helped us with
our training. We also thank Petrus Kgwedi who was the referee
during the match. This was really an exciting day that we all
enjoyed very much.

plaasgevind te Middelburg. Die gasheer skool was HTS Middelburg. Met die aankoms
was die fasiliteit netjies en die middag was baie goed georganiseer. Baie skole het
deelgeneem. Die temas was Padtekens, Respek en Beroepe. Die leerders het hulle
goed voorberei en mekaar deeglik opgekeil. Alhoewel ons nie onder die wenners was
nie, was ons elkeen op sy eie gebied ‘n wenner. Dit was vir ons ‘n groot uitdaging
gewees. Die kommentaar van die beoordeelaars het ons verryk om volgende keer nie
weer dieselfde foute te maak nie. Volgende jaar gaan ons redenaars almal aan die
brand praat soos rissies…

Grace was a beautiful,
energetic 8 year old girl
destined for greatness. She
was a very spirited youngster who
loved to play netball. She was very
friendly and made friends easily.
She sadly passed away on the 15th
of April 2010, two days after her
eighth birthday. Our sincere
condolences go out to all her family
and friends. We will miss her
greatly.

Hoërskool Spanbou Mode gunstelinge

Dinsdag 8 Junie 2010 het ons as hoërskool ons fase ete saam
met ‘n heerlike spanbou dag gekombineer. Ons het die middag by
Winterveld klub afgeskop met ‘n rolbal kompetisie, die spel was
natuurlik ‘n eerste vir feitlik almal. Dit was ‘n leersame middag
en hoewel die winter sonnetjie ons lekker gebak het, soos wat
net die Steelpoort sonnetjie kan doen, was daar beslis ‘n paar
verborge talente ontbloot. Ons het later die middag aan ‘n
heerlike bord skaapkerrie gesmul wat Karen voor gesorg het.
Wat ‘n heerlike ontspanne middag om die kwartaal mee af te
sluit. Ons het saam geleer, gelag en geëet, wie kan nou vir meer
vra? Ons is ‘n wonderlike span wat mekaar ondersteun en
bystaan en ons het die dag verskriklik geniet.

Miley Cyrus se “sweet country” styl vir deur die
dag en pop-ster styl vir die aand is baie in die
mode. Gemak is die wagwoord bv. noupyp jeans met
stewels vir deur die dag. ‘n Kortmou-oortruitjie met ‘n lae
hals is net reg vir wanneer daar ‘n byt in die lug is, maar
dit nog nie koud genoeg is vir ‘n dik trui nie.
Bykomstighede is blink krale om die nek, silwer/goud
armbande en groot oorbele. Probeer om die
bykomstighede af te wissel en slegs 2 van die 3 op ‘n slag
aan te trek. Groot handsakke, serpe en hoedens is ‘n moet
die seisoen. Dra meer aardse kleure deur die dag en
moenie bang wees om te uit te staan vir jul aandjie uit
met meer helder kleure nie. Onthou om altyd donkerder
kleure onder te dra bv. broeke en rompe.

Geruite hemde, jeans en gemaklike skoene is die manier
om te gaan die seisoen. Potloodstreep-aandbaadjies met
‘n V-nek trui en ‘n serp is hoog mode. Kraaghemde word
bo-oor T-hemde gedra wat dan afgerond word met ‘n
sportiewe top. Hou by aardse kleure soos groen en bruin
en moenie bang wees om so nou en dan dit af te wissel
met meer koeler kleure soos blou nie. Belê in ‘n paar
swart en bruin skoene wat sal pas by alles.

Moedersdag gevier

Op Vrydag 7 Mei 2010 het die leiers

‘n spesiale vingerete gereël vir al die
onderwyseresse om Moedersdag op ‘n
besondere manier te vier. Elke
onderwyseres het ‘n geskenkie ontvang om
hul te herhinner aan die besonderse rol wat
moeders speel in die gesin. Juffrouens wat
nog nie ma is nie, is ook nie uitgelaat nie. Die
onderwyseresse het dit baie geniet en
waardeer dit opreg.
Ons smul aan Tannie Snoepie se lekkernye

Annemarie Language is ons eie Tannie Snoepie. Hierdie merkwaardige vrou se hande is nooit
stil nie. Sy verskaf elke dag kos en lekkernye aan honderde laer en hoërskool kinders en
natuurlik die honger onderwysers. Almal smul behoorlik aan die heerlike hamburgers, worsbroodjies,
pasteie, kerrie en rys, geroosterde broodjies en vele meer.
Annemarie is al ses jaar verbonde aan die snoepie en die laaste van haar vier kinders is nou in graad 6.
Annemarie se man, Henry was ook twee jaar voorsitter van die Beheerliggaam.
Sy het vir een jaar die snoepie alleen behartig,maar dit het so uitgebrei dat sy vir Drienie van Aswegen
genader het om te kom help. In Januarie 2009 het Veronica Munro by Annemarie aangesluit, nadat
Drienie verhuis het, en saam vorm hulle n suksesvolle span.
Om die snoepie te behartig,
behels meer as net om kos te
verskaf. Annemarie deel in
almal se lief en leed en sy is
altyd daar om raad te gee of
te troos. Hulle geniet ook die
kleintjies se sêgoed en moet
soms mooi dink as hulle vra vir
“chopi chop” of “blue tooth”.
Sy het ook baie planne vir die
toekoms en hoop om die
snoepie nog verder uit te brei.
Daar wag ook ‘n paar
verrassings.

Opwindende koerantkursus bygewoon Deur Juf. Sterretjie Gouws

‘n Opgewonde groepie leerders het douvoordag op 16 Maart bymekaar gekom om die
koerantkursus by te woon. Nadat ons suksesvol die slaggatwals voltooi het, en in een
stuk ons bestemming bereik het, kon die dag begin. Ons is vertel presies hoe ‘n koerant
aanmekaargesit word. Van die voorblad met die hoofberig, tot en met die agterblad wat
die sportnuus bevat. Die twee joernaliste wat die kursus aangebied het se entoesiasme was
aansteeklik en teen die tyd dat ons geleentheid gekry het om ons eie koerant te laat “sak”, het
die spannetjie man en muis hul kant gebring om in rekordtyd ‘n kampioenkoerant saam te stel.
Elkeen van ons was baie lus om ook joernaliste te word. Die gasheerskool het hul uitmuntend
van hul taak gekwyt, ons het werklik welkom gevoel. Natuurlik was daar ook heerlike eetgoed
aan ons voorsien en ons sal die vriendelike tannies nog lank onthou. Volgende jaar gaan ons
verseker voor in die ry staan om weer daardie kursus by te woon.

It was tough and challenging, but worth it

girls and the boys were just a handful, so the choir was not balanced as such. One last challenge was that
of pitching up during practices. Most learners were engaged in other sporting activities such as Netball and
Rugby and that made them not attend practices as scheduled. On the 6th of May 2010, our school competed
for the first time in Jane Furse Comprehensive School for cluster Competitions. We managed to obtain
position three in English song and position four in Sepedi song, for the Junior choir. And for the
Intermediate we obtained position three. The competition was tough as we were competing against more
than 12 schools in our category. It was quite an achievement and a wonderful experience that will linger in
our memories forever. Our plans as Steelpoort choir are to enter and participate in such competitions for
years to come. We hope that with the passion and commitment we have, we will do much better and bring
some trophies to our school. Music is food for the soul and always remember this: “One who sings, praises

Met ‘n gesmeek en gesoebat is ons “boots and all”

As daar nou een jaar van hoogtepunte was vir Atletiek
was dit nou 2010. Dit sal onregverdig wees om atlete
uit te sonder maar kom ons begin by die wegspringplek.
Die jaar het afgeskop met die spoed van lig, die interhuis was in
dieselfde week as wat die skool heropen het. Oom Nick en sy
werkers het spoedig bane begin maak. Alles was gereed, toe
gebeur wat elke atletiek organiseerder vrees, reën, met die
gevolg dat die byeenkoms uitgestel word. Om alles te kroon het
dit drie keer na mekaar gebeur. Oom Nick en die werkers het
egter nooit moed verloor nie en die bane elke keer net mooier
laat lyk. Uiteindelik het ons ‘n byeenkoms gehou en die rekords
het gespat. Ek dink die kinders se geesdrif na 3 weke se gewag
het dit baie aangehelp. So was ‘n atletiekspan vir 2010 gebore.
Ons het by verskeie byeenkomste gaan deelneem en by elke
byeenkoms was die Steelies ‘n span om mee te reken. Soos die
seisoen na ‘n einde gekom het was dit tyd vir Interlaer. Die
Interlaer het die jaar by Malelane plaasgevind en die dag was
pragtig. Ons seuns en dogters het almal regtig soos sterre gelyk
en met die optog kon ‘n mens sien dat die dag groot sou wees vir
Steelpoort. Hulle het elkeen ‘n vlaggie gehad wat ons mars laat
uitstaan het. Weereens wil ek sê dat nie een atleet moet
uitgesonder word nie, 2010 was ‘n goeie jaar vir Steelie atletiek.

Alberts se blink gedagte gewees wat goeie vrugte
afgewerp het. Dankie meneer! Wedstryde teen baie sterk
skole is met gemengde uitslae behaal. Daar is egter puik
prestasies by die liga-spanne hierdie jaar. Al die spanne
het tot by Mpumalanga Kampioenskappe gevorder. Baie
geluk! Ons is ook baie trots om hierdie jaar 3 netbaldogters
in die Mpumalanga spanne te hê. Baie sterkte en baie geluk
aan julle. Ons hou styf duim vas. Aan elke afrigter wil ek net
sê baie dankie vir jul positiwiteit, mooi gesindheid en harde
werk gedurende die seisoen. Sonder julle sou die netbal nie
so ‘n sukses gewees het nie. Kom ons bou volgende jaar voort
met die pragtige groei wat hierdie jaar by ons netbal plaas
gevind het. Dankie vir elke ouer se volgehoue ondersteuning.

Deur harde oefening het 3 van ons
spanne (o/11,o/12 en o/13) deurgedring na die
finale van die Mpumalanga uitdunne. Ons het
ons beste gegee maar het ongelukkig nie die
knoop deurgehaak om wel as wenners uit te
stap nie. Dit was wel vir al drie spanne ‘n goeie
leerproses. Die skool se netbalspanne was
werklik aan die brand en het toe 3 Mussa
netbalspelers opgelewer wat hulle provinsie
by die Suid-Afrikaanse toernooi in
Johannesburg gaan verteenwoordig tussen 6
- 9 Augustus 2010.

Ons klein span het aan die Carpe Diem rugby week deelgeneem en het baie goed gevaar. Ons het 3
uit die 5 wedstryde gewen. Oom Arrie Heyl was die span se chaperone saam met afrigters Mnr.
Anton Erasmus en Oom Bertus Cross. Ons het op die ou einde derde geeïndig in die kompetisie. Ons het aan
die rugby liga deelgeneem en het die volgende uitslae behaal.
Nelspruit 5 - 0 Steelpoort; Laeveld 17 - 7 Steelpoort; Bergland 12- 7 Steelpoort; Lydenburg 19 - 0
Steelpoort; Witrivier 10 - 8 Steelpoort
Al ons 13 seuns het na die Puma proewe gegaan waar 9 van die spelers deur gegaan het na die volgende
rondte. Die rondte daarna was die semi finale waar 3 van ons spelers deelgeneem het by HTS Middelburg.
