INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING AND TESTING

BACKGROUND

THEME

In line with the primary duty of Centre for Language Development UIN Syarif Hidayatullah
Jakarta i.e. to provide services on foreign language instruction and assessment, this
international conference themes Language Teaching and Assessment for the 21st Century
Learning: Current Trends and Issue.

SCOPE

The paper to be presented in this conference will discuss the follwoing topics:

1. Language program management/ evaluation

2. Second language teaching
3. Second language assessment
4. Second language program policy
5. Language skills for the 21st century
6. Technology for second language teaching and assessment
7. Second Language Teacher education and development

OBJECTIVE

The main objective of this conference is to bring together academics, researchers,

educators, students, practitioners and other groups whose interests are in the teaching and
assessment of foreign languages to share their works in developing the field of education
and testing of foreign languages in the context of learning in the 21st century. This
conference seeks to provide the opportunity for academics and practitioners to share their
theoretical knowledge, research findings, and practical experiences in the field to colleagues
and other academic communities. This activity is also expected to be a means of
dissemination of current progresses and innovations in the field of foreign language teaching
and assessment.

SIGNIFICANCE

The benefits to be obtained from this international conference are:

- The exchange of knowledge between academia and students in the field of

language teaching and assessment;
 - The establishment of a network of inter institutions and academics of the
developers of teaching materials and foreign language testing, particularly
those in Islamic higher education context ;
- Publication of scholarly works and academic research of of UIN Syarif
Hidayatullah Jakartas lecturers indexed in scopus proceeding;
- Strengthening of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta image as one of the leading
institutions in the development of foreign language teaching materials and
assessment;

IMPLEMENTATION MECHANISM

DATE AND VENUE

The conference will be held for 3 (three) days from 29 31 August 2017. The whole series of
conference activities will take place in the campuses of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Jl.
Ir. H. Juanda No. 95 Ciputat, Tangerang Selatan.

In addition, the conference invites academics, practitioners and observers in the field of
foreign language teaching and assessment both from within and outside the country to
attend and share their knowledge and research results/findings.

CALL FOR PAPERS MECANISM

Academics, practitioners and observers in the field of oreign language teaching and
assessment will be invited to submit and present their papers at the conference through the
mechanism of the Call for Papers.

Invitation for Call for Papers will be distributed through various communication media such
as official invitation letters and email to universities and to the language lecturers, flyers in
social media, etc. The deadline of abstract submission is set in the draft as follows:

Important Dates:

- Abstract Submission 31 March 2017

- The results of abstracts review will sent back to the writers within two weeks after
submission
- Payment registration, 30 June 2017
- Full Paper submisson, 29 July 2017

As for prospective speakers are to submit abstracts through the following procedures:

1. Register through the online registration portal (Google form)

2. Filling the personal details and information
3. Uploading the manuscript abstract of 250 words to

ABSTRACT/PAPER SELECTION PROCEDURE

Accepted abstracts will be reviewed through the committee with a peer-review procedure by
which the committee will invite the participation of paper writer for reviewing or selecting
abstracts that go into the committee table. Each author will be asked to select a maximum of
five (5) abstracts. There is no obligation for the writer to meet the demand of the committee
to be an abstract reviewer but each participating writer name will be recorded in the
conference program book as a form of respect.

Two weeks after being accepted, the abstract will be sent back to the writer following the
review result of the selection team. The selection team can decide whether the abstract is
accepted, accepted with suggestions for improvements, or rejected. Each abstract writer is
given three (3) months to submit his/her full papers (full paper) to be presented and
published in the conference proceeding.
