of EEE, Assignment 3
14. Impedance Z2 and Z3 in parallel are in series with impedance Z1across a 100V,50Hz
supply. Determine the value of capacitance Xc such that the total current of the circuit
will be in phase with the total voltage. Calculate the circuit current and power.
15. Determine the resonant frequency, source current and the input impedance of the circuit
shown in the figure for each of the cases.
16. An inductive coil of resistance 10ohm and inductance 0.1H is connected in parallel with
150microF capacitor to a variable frequency 200V supply. Find the resonant frequency at
which the total current taken from supply is in phase with the supply voltage. Also find
values of this current. (Is=3A)
Series Resonance Example No1
A series resonance network consisting of a resistor of 30, a capacitor of 2uF and an inductor of
20mH is connected across a sinusoidal supply voltage which has a constant output of 9 volts at
all frequencies. Calculate, the resonant frequency, the current at resonance, the voltage across the
inductor and capacitor at resonance, the quality factor and the bandwidth of the circuit. Also
sketch the corresponding current waveform for all frequencies.
Resonant Frequency, r
Note: the supply voltage may be only 9 volts, but at resonance, the reactive voltages across the
capacitor, VC and the inductor, VL are 30 volts peak!
Quality factor, Q
