Topic : Series Resonance

1. A series resonance network consisting of a resistor of 30, a capacitor of 2uF and an


inductor of 20mH is connected across a sinusoidal supply voltage which has a constant
output of 9 volts at all frequencies. Calculate, the resonant frequency, the current at
resonance, the voltage across the inductor and capacitor at resonance, the quality factor
and the bandwidth of the circuit. Also sketch the corresponding current waveform for all
frequencies.

2. A series circuit consists of a resistance of 4, an inductance of 500mH and a variable


capacitance connected across a 100V, 50Hz supply. Calculate the capacitance require to
give series resonance and the voltages generated across both the inductor and the
capacitor.
3. A resistor and capacitor are in series with a variable inductor. When the circuit is
connected to 200V,50Hz supply, the maximum current obtained by varying the
inductance is 0.314A. The voltage across the capacitor when current in the circuit is
maximum is 800V. Find the value of the series circuit elements.
4. A series RLC circuit consists of 50ohm resistance,0.2H inductance and 10microF
capacitance with applied voltage of 20V. Determine resonant frequency. Find Q-factor
also compute lower and upper frequency limits and bandwidth.
5. Define Q-factor and write the expression for quality factor of series RLC circuit.
6. Define resonant frequency in terms of half power frequencies.
7. A series RLC circuit with R=50ohm and C=20microF has an applied voltage V=100v
with a variable frequency. Find the resonant frequency, the values of frequency at which
maximum voltage occur across the inductor and the value of frequency at which
maximum voltage occur across the capacitor. Also calculate maximum value of voltage.
8. A series circuit with R=10ohm,L=0.1H and C=50microF has an applied voltage V=50v
with a variable frequency. Find the resonant frequency, the value of frequency at which
maximum voltage occurs across the inductor and the value of frequency at which
maximum voltage occurs across the capacitor.
9. Define bandwidth of a resonant circuit.
10. A RLC series circuit has R=60ohm, L=160mH and C=160microF. Find the resonant
frequency, under resonant condition current, power and the voltage across the various
elements if the applied voltage is 300v.
11. Draw the frequency response of RLC series Circuits.
12. A RLC series circuit consists of R=16ohm,L=5mH and c=2microF. Calculate the quality
factor at resonance, bandwidth and half-power frequencies.
13. Find the value of R such that the impedance of the whole circuit is independent of
frequency of the supply. If V=200v,L=0.16H and C=100microF. Calculate the power loss
in the circuit.

14. Impedance Z2 and Z3 in parallel are in series with impedance Z1across a 100V,50Hz
supply. Determine the value of capacitance Xc such that the total current of the circuit
will be in phase with the total voltage. Calculate the circuit current and power.

15. Determine the resonant frequency, source current and the input impedance of the circuit
shown in the figure for each of the cases.

16. An inductive coil of resistance 10ohm and inductance 0.1H is connected in parallel with
150microF capacitor to a variable frequency 200V supply. Find the resonant frequency at
which the total current taken from supply is in phase with the supply voltage. Also find
values of this current. (Is=3A)
