Unit: Rocks and Lesson: Rock and Soils 3 Time from: 8:00 to: 8:50
Soils
PURPOSE Why am I teaching this lesson? What do I want the students to know/to be able to do by the
end of the lesson that they could not do before? (LOs and SOs)

At the end of the lesson student will recognize where rocks come from by
describing the rock cycle in simple terms.
GROUPING: What is the group size? How is every student going to be able to participate? Will you be
differentiating and how?

I have five groups each group involves 5/6 students and I applied two differentiation
strategies for this lesson:

Flexible Grouping: which means that medium, high and low students are setting
in the same group, this will give students opportunities to interact with other
students in meaningful by dealing with wide range of peers who are alike and
different from themselves. Besides that, all of the working to reach same learning
objectives.
Multi-leveled questions and activities: I created two kind of activities group and
individual worksheet. Both of them require from them to recognize the new ideas of
the lessons concept by ordering rock cycle stages. The first one groups activity
includes labels and they have to make rock cycle by ordering these key terms. The
second one individual worksheet includes fill in questions which a challenging
question for grade two.

Volcanic Eruption the sudden occurrence of a violent

Weathering the various mechanical and

chemical processes that cause

surface by an object, fluid, etc., in
contact with it

Students Prior Knowledge:

Students already know the three mains types of rock

Students already learned about each rocks properties

Possible Problems:

Problem (1): I might face problem with the data show.

Possible solution (1): I will save my PowerPoint in Flash so I can display it using
different laptop

Problem (2): Student may take a lot of time sticking the individual worksheet in
their notebook
Possible solution (2): I will stick the paper in each students book before the
session.

Problem (3): Student may finish the worksheet or the group activity early.
Possible solution (3): I created an extra worksheet for them.

Apinddex (4)
Misconception (1): students may do not remember the three types of rocks
Solution (1): I add some pictures describe each type

Rock Cycle Story

Stage (1):

Once upon a time, there were two brother rocks under the earth,
inside the volcano, the temperature was very high, the temperature
kept rising and the brothers got so hot that the melted, this hot liquid
rock called magma and they are able to move around, the brothers
enjoyed their times as magma floating around inside the earth.
But one day they forced to surface in volcanic eruption, this caused
him to cool down very quickly making them into a igneous rock.

Stage (2):

Later one, one day they weathered and eroded into small pieces called
sediments, the two brothers and all their pieces were picked up by a
river and carried far far away from their home, eventually the river
dropped and deposit them into the ocean, many layers of sediments
continue to build up, each layer was squeezed together to form new
type or rock called sedimentary rock.

Stage (3):

The layer continues to build pushing the brothers deeper and deeper
under the earth, it was very hot and there was a lot of weight on the
top of the brothers, heat and pressure caused the brothers to change
into metamorphic rock.

Stage (4):

The temperature kept rising, that caused to convert the rocks into
magma, and the process started all over.
