April is Autism Awareness month! Officially, April 2nd is World


Autism Awareness Day, but since that date is on a Sunday, Arklan
School will recognize World Autism Awareness Day on Thursday,
April 6th!
So, lets LIGHT IT UP BLUE on April 6th! Wear blue, paint your
nails blue, rock some blue hair, get creative!!!

Food Drive! Arklan families are a generous bunch! Every year we collect non-
perishable food items and toiletries for our local food bank. This
years food drive started the last week of March and continues un-
til Thursday, April 13th.
The items we collect will be stored in the display case at the front
of the school. Every day a student makes a donation, they fill out a
ballot to win a prize!
Here are a few items that are in great need: cold cereal, cans/jugs
of juice, juice boxes, Cheez Whiz, pancake mix (just add water
type), pancake syrup, toilet paper, paper towels, pasta, pasta
sauce, salsa, canned tomatoes, canned vegetables, Kraft dinner.
Your support is very much appreciated!

towards the benefit of Arklan students.

Friday, April 21

Earth Day is celebrated every year on April 22nd. Earth Day is the largest
environmental event in the world!
School-aged children all across Canada will participate in Earth Day activities
in their own schools as well as throughout their communities.
Arklan staff and students are proud to recognize and support Earth Day.
On Friday, April 21st, please wear green, brown or camo!

Canada Pitch-In Week


April 24-28

Our community participates annually in Canada Pitch-In Week.


For many years, Arklan staff and students have been dedicated
supporters of Pitch-In Week.
During the week of April 24-28, we will participate in cleaning,
restoring and beautifying our environment by picking up litter
and other garbage from our school grounds and beyond. The
Carleton Place BIA will provide gloves and garbage bags.
Pitch-In Week promotes respect for Canadas natural and urban
environments.

Review of Transportation Procedures:
School Council and Board Officials have implemented a Drop-Off and Pick-Up procedure for our
school that is designed with the safety of students as the top priority. The following diagram illus-
trates the flow of transportation. Please take a moment to review the diagram. Here are a few im-
portant notations:

The flow of traffic is one-lane only (no passing please!)

Please load/unload from the passenger side of your vehicle only

There is a designated parking area and pick up gate for kindergarten students

Pitch-In Week

On Monday, May 1st, the students of Arklan Public take place at about 12:45 on May 1st. The choir
School will once again be celebrating Music Monday, will kick off the concert, and all classes in the
