I guess there is a lot of ways to describe what my role would be at the Department of Juvenile Justice.

I
have done an array of things. From helping with math to now using PowerPoint presentations for
presenting on any topic I deem fit for that week. In a nutshell, I am hoping to make a difference in their
lives, one person at a time. My latest task was with PowerPoint. 2 weeks ago, there was a teacher work
day during the time that I was supposed to volunteer. Mr. Laws and I took that time to plan out the rest of
the semester. He gave me the chance to give my opinion on what was important to me that I believed
would benefit the kids. So last week I created a presentation called, "What makes you so special?" All in
all, I ended up having the kids take some time to reflect on what really makes them special/ different from
others. This was a chance for them to realize that although they are here for something they did wrong.
they all are unique and have the potential to do something amazing when they get out of there. This
ended up being an open discussion with everyone chiming in on how to take those unique characteristics
and implement them when they get out. I personally believe that these kids need to stop focusing on how
much time they have left there and start focusing on what they can do when they get out.
