Ambushed hardly a league from the Golden Wood, all of Lindal’s party had perished; he had barely escaped with the ‘message, suffering a poisoned arrow wound. Near death he staggered 10 the river Nimrodel, where Tathar, of the northern border Guard, ound him. Knowing the complexity of the Orc-poisons, he applied ‘only a Carnerem leaf 10 the wound, carrying the unconscious Lin- dal 10 Caras Galadhon. There a fellow Sindar guard awaited them 4a the gates. "Go directly to the Lady's Mirror-Glade; she will see 10 the messenger there.” So here they stood, Galadriel looking more beautiful and power- {ful than ever her golden hair shimmering in the starlight. As with all the Eldar she seemed somehow remote, but deep in her eyes lay ‘genuine concern. Lindal was now little more than a dead weight ‘against Tathar; any magic could heal him, it must work quickly! The Lady of Lérien approaches, her healing hands outstretched. Cres / Guidelines 1.0 GUIDELINES Fantasy role playing is akin toa living novel where the players are ‘the main characters. Everyone combines to write a story which is never short of adventure. They help create a new land and strange new tales ‘This series is designed as a tool for gamemasters who wish to run scenarios or campaigns set in J.R.R, Tolkien's Middle earth. Cam- paign Modules are complete studies of specific areas and are in- tended to be used with a minimum of additional work. Each has Statistical information based on the Middle-earth Role Playing (MERP) and Rolemaster (RM) fantasy systems. The modules are, however, adaptable for use with most major role playing games. Creative guidelines, not absolutes, are emphasized, ofessor Tolkien's Legacy Each module is based on extensive research and attempts to meet the high standards associated with the Tolkien legacy. Rational linguistic, cultural, and geological data are employed. Interpretive ‘material has been included with great care, and fits into defined pat- terns and schemes. ICE does not intend it to be the sole or proper view; instead, we hope to give the reader the thrust of the creative processes and the character ofthe given area. Remember that the ultimate sources of information are the works of Professor J.R.R. Tolkien. Posthumous publications edited by his son Christopher shed additional light on the world of Middle-earth ‘These modules are derived from The Hobbit and The Lord of the ‘Rings, although they have been developed so that no conflict exists with any of the other sources. 1.1 DEFINITIONS AND TERMS 1.11 ABBREVIATIONS, MERP __ Middle-earth Role Paying RM ___Rolemauer — Aslity RM a MERI) Me ___ Memory (RM) TZ eonsteuton Mand.
