PROCESS OUTCOMES (FOR MATH SUBSTITUTE FOR OTHERS)

CROSS-CURRICULAR CONNECTIONS
Mathematics: estimating the measures of angles, for reference angles.

NUMERACY/LITERACY; COMPETENCIES
Literacy Competencies: Collaboration-The students will be working in partners and in
small groups, hitting the birdie back and forth with each other and in game like scenarios.
Communication- Within these groups communication must be used to succeed in these
group activities.
Numeracy Competencies: Problem solving- when the students are attempting to hit the
birdie into the hula-hoop working on accuracy. The problem solving would consist of
figuring out how you need to change the spot to get it into the hula-hoop.

KAGAN STRATEGIES/INSTRUCTIONAL INTELLIGENCES

Stand up, Hand up, Pair up

MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES/LEARNING STYLES

Kinesthetic: The students participating in the gym class.
Visual: The demonstrating of the activity gives the visual students an opportunity to
view what the gym class will consist of.
Audio: As the teacher explains the activities before the demonstrations, this targets
the audio learners in the class.

MODIFICATIONS and EXTENSIONS

Modification: Use a larger hula-hoop for the students struggling with their aim.
Extensions: Move the hula-hoop around in the badminton to court to challenge their
serving skills, if the spot they choice is becoming easier for them. Another way to
challenge the students would be to set the nets up and still have them aim into the hula-
hoop on the other side.

EVALUATION and ASSESSMENT

At the end of class assess students understanding on each of the following: the
proper grip by getting them to explain the key points, a proper ready position, and
strategies used to correct the issues in the aiming portion.
During this portion, you will give the students the exit slip for the assessment.
EXIT SLIP: Name:

1) In what badminton shot do you raise your elbow to 90?

2) There are two types of serving allowed in badminton, what are they?

3) What strategies did you find helpful when you were attempting to hit the birdie into the hula-
hoop?

NOTES AND REVISIONS

- I would like to explain to the students for hand up, stand up, pair up that
tailgating and drive-bys are not allowed to ensure that they are with
partners they are not normally with.
