Instructions
* Attempt all questions.
* Paper 2 has Two Parts I and II. Each question of Part I carries 2 marks and each
question of part II caries 5 marks.
* Calculators and log tables are not permitted.
PART I
1. The electric field in a region is given by E A x3 i . What is the potential at any point in the region?
2. A radioactive sample has decay constant . The rate of production of nuclei in the given sample as
9N02
, where N0 is the number of radioactive nuclei in the sample at t = 0 and N is the number of
N
radioactive nuclei in the sample at time t = t sec. Find the number of nuclei present in the radioactive
sample at t . (Given N0 = 106 nuclei)

k = 1 5 . Find the maximum speed v A, for the block not to slide on the
platform. 400 mm

5. The container in the figure is filled with a fluid having density 2 upto a D C
8. Two point masses of 0.2 Kg and 0.5 kg are fixed at the ends of a light rod of length 1.4m. Find the
minimum moment of inertia of the rod about an axis perpendicular to the rod.
PART II
11. A straight glass tube is having sealed lower end and upper end is open to atmosphere. P0
F
The lower half of the tube is filled with n moles of a diatomic gas at initial temperature
T0 and the upper half is filled with mercury. Atmospheric pressure is 76 cm of mercury
and complete length of the tube is 152 cm. Now the gas inside the tube is slowly
heated. Given that (Atmospheric pressure in S.I. unit)(Area of cross section of the tube P0
in S.I.unit) (0.76 m)=16J.Neglect any vibrational degree of freedom.
(a) If at any time volume of the gas is V find the pressure of gas.

(b) Calculate the temperature of the gas when complete mercury is pushed out.
(c) What will be work done by gas in pushing the mercury completely out.
12. Two identical buggies move one after the other due to inertia (without friction) with the same velocity
v 0 . A man of mass m rides the rear buggy. At a certain moment, the man jumps into the front buggy
with a velocity u relative to his buggy. Knowing that the mass of each buggy is equal to m. Find the
velocity with which the buggies will move after that.
