School Governors

Structure and Purpose 2016-17

Rationale

1. The Full Governing Body ensures that the school uses its resources (financial and otherwise)
effectively to serve the needs of children, parents, carers and families. This includes
ensuring the school provides value for money and takes a clear and constructive approach to
ensuring continuous school improvement

2. The Full Governing Body is supported by sub committees (Safeguarding, School

Improvement, Resources and Finance, Families and Community and Personnel) that will
meet on a termly basis in advance of the full Governing Body.

3. An additional School Improvement Committee, whose membership includes Chairs of

Committees, sets the strategic agenda for the school and will meet and shape the vision for
the school. The committee, at the same time informs, monitors and reviews School Self
Evaluation. In addition they monitor detailed delivery of the School Improvement Plan and
ensure there is a clear focus on curriculum issues and standards. And in turn ensure
continuous and sustained performance improvements. This committee is also responsible
for Headteacher appraisal.

4. The Safeguarding Committee is responsible for the child protection and the implementation
of the statutory policies and procedures. Their work will include health and safety, ensuring
key risk assessments are in place and are being adhered to.

5. The Finance and Resources Committee is responsible for oversight of staff resources and all
other delegated operational aspects of the schools delivery HR, premises, cleaning and
catering, health and safety and daycare costs. The finance aspect is responsible for detailed
monitoring of the schools budget and ensuring effective use of funds and value for money
for goods and services. This committee will make recommendations on the financial
implications of any school projects or activities proposed by other committees of working
groups.

6. The Personnel Committee is responsible for overseeing staff appointments and their
continual professional development. They will ensure the appropriate and relevant policies
and procedures are in place to safeguard the children and support them in their learning and
personal development.

7. Statutory Committees are convened as needed and different governors will be on the
disciplinary and appeals committees.

8. The number of Co-oped Governors appointed to the Governing Body, based on the skills
they bring, is dependent on the skills required by the Governing Body at any given time but
is always no fewer than two.
