Mechanics Course Syllabus

COURSE RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES:


Intro. to Ag Mechanics is a foundation level course that will teach students about the
fundamentals of agricultural mechanics. Students are immersed in inquiry-based exercises filled
with activities, projects, and problems that focus upon the form and function of material,
machines and tools used in agriculture.

METHOD OF EVALUATION:
Student work will be evaluated by class activities, assignments, two end of the semester finals, and
unit tests and quizzes. The semester grades for Intro. to Ag Mechanics will be determined as follows:
20% - Fall Final (Test)/Spring Final (Course Portfolio)
50% - Class Activities/Assignments
30% - Unit Tests/Quizzes

ASSIGNMENTS:
Assignments are due on the due date and at the time called for. NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS will be
accepted. If a student attends school and is dismissed early for an activity or appointment, assignments due
that day are to be turned in before leaving to receive credit for the assignment. If not handed in before
leaving for the activity or appointment, a zero will be recorded for the assignment. Class activities and
assignments are to be made up by coming in before school, during seminar, or after school two days after
the absence unless ill and absent more than one day. Exceptions will be made on an individual basis for
extended absence.
Make up work is the responsibility of the student. Students missing class for school activities or
appointments are to be prepared for their next class. Arrangements can be made for makeup due to
extended absences. Remember! - Make up may be scheduled before school, during seminar or after
school.

BREAKAGE POLICY:
Students who choose to be irresponsible with shop materials will be required to pay replacement costs plus
10% shipping for all items that become broken, damaged, or missing.

CLASS INFORMATION SUMMARY:


1. NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
2. No snacks, and drinks are permitted in the shop area due to contamination possibilities.
3. Student classroom procedures.
Students are to be standing at their assigned station, changed into shop appropriate attire when the
tardy bell sounds for the beginning of class.
Students are to come to class prepared with all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Student computers are to remain in book bags and are not to be out without teacher instructions.
Students are to use class time wisely and with a sense of urgency.
Students will all be assigned rotational clean-up duties that will be completed to the quality
standard outlined by instructor during orientation day.
Students are to remain seated until excused at the end of class.
Both the student and parents/guardians are aware of the risks associated with working with
shop equipment, your child will be trained and required to take an exam, but this is still no
silver bullet to prevent a shop accident. The responsibility for safety lies with the student to use
good and safe judgment. The failure to do so will lead to removal from course activities for the
remainder of the course, to be replaced with class work assigned by instructor. By signing this
form you have been made aware of the above conditions and will not hold either the instructor
or the Blue Valley School District liable.
