What I notice
- Observation took place in the
STEM lab.
- The classroom was split up into
four students per table.
- The teacher provided the class
with direct instructions before
instructing the class to take
action.
- The teacher told the students
they would be working on a
Public Service Announcement
project.
- The teacher then went into depth
on PSAs and how they worked
and what they did.
- The teacher showed an example
on animals in animal shelters.
- The teacher explained that each
student would be working in a
group and would be assigned a
specific topic to research and
then create a PSA of their own.
- The PSA had to be completed on
a website called Powtoon and
had to be a minimum of 2
minutes long with a minimum of
5 pictures and 5 slides.
- Some topics were cutting down
trees, GMOs, The Ocean is
not a Garbage Can.
- The students were to switch off
being in charge of writing on the
keynote and had to use a safe
search engine for their research.
- The teacher walked around from
group to group asking questions
about each topic.
- The teacher kept students on
topic by walking around and

Thoughts, Questions, Connections to
Methods Classes
- I thought it was really cool that
each week each class throughout
the school gets one hour in the
STEM lab to work on things of
their choice.
- There is also a STEM lab teacher
that provides the information and
assignments.
- One question I had was how do
students become so accustomed
to working with technology and
know how to do all of the
amazing things that were being
done?
- If I were teaching this in a
classroom that did not have
access to the amount of
resources as the STEM lab or the
school in general, this lesson
could be taught by using poster
boards and markers. To research
the information books from the
school library could be used.
- This lesson was a great way to
incorporate technology in the
classroom in a fun and
educational way.
