Lobby group sues Nkaissery over

Mandera curfew extension
A
lobby group has sued Interior cabi-
net secretary Joseph Nkaissery for
extending a curfew order in Man-
dera county.
The CS last week extended the dusk-
dawn curfew for three months after the
previous curfew order that lasted for five
months expired on 28th March.
Northern Advocacy Organisation in a suit
filed at the High Court in Nairobi under
certificate of urgency protested against
the extension of the curfew arguing that
it is illegal and violates the fundamental
rights and freedom of Mandera residents.
The continuation of the curfew is illegal,
unconstitutional and punitive, as the people
of Mandera have been denied their funda-
mental rights to associate and move freely
as enshrined in the Constitution, read the
court papers seen by The Friday Bulletin.
The lobby group opposed the extension of
the curfew arguing that it has outlived its
usefulness since no investigations have
been conducted and no suspects appre-
hended by security agencies in the area.
To allow security organs a period of six
months to investigate, pursue and appre-
hend offenders while there is a dusk to
dawn curfew for all that period is tanta-
mount to depriving the constitutional rights
of the citizens of Mandera county, said
the organisation.
The group further criticized the extension
saying the curfew will violate the residents
freedom of worship as it will bar them from
attending evening prayers during the
month of Ramadhan which is expected to
begin at the end of May.
The extended curfew will greatly interfere
with the prayer sessions of the Muslims in
Mandera during the holy month of Rama-
dhan which commences on or about May
20, it further added.

Eastleigh Mosque raises over 66 million for drought victims

A Nairobi Mosque has raised over sixty six
million shillings for millions of people fac-
ing famine in Kenya and Somalia.
Masjid Abubakar in Eastleighs sixth street
through its drought committee raised
US$649,000 (Sh 66, 976,800) in the first
phase of the fund drive.
The popular mosque in Eastleigh made the
appeal to various mosques to raise funds
for the victims of the drought which has so

far claimed several lives in Somalia while
thousands of livestock in both countries
have died due to lack of water and pasture.
The donations and contributions were made
by well-wishers, worshippers from various
mosques, business people, organisations
and religious leaders from Nairobi and
Mombasa.
According to Sheikh Muhammad Umal
who heads the fundraising committee, the
funds have already been dispersed to areas
worst hit by the ravaging drought that has
claimed hundreds of lives.
These areas include Somaliland, Jubba-
land, Galmudug, Puntland, South West
State of Somalia and Hirshabelle. The
counties of Mandera, Garissa, Wajir and
Marsabit also benefited from the funds af-
ter receiving 10 million shillings.

Police on the spot over Eastleigh extrajudicial Laws on Islamic bonds to
killings
The Kenya Police Service is yet again on
the spotlight following the killing of two
suspected criminals in Eastleigh over the
weekend.
On Saturday a chilling graphic video
emerged on the social media showing
a plain clothed police officer publicly ex-
ecuting unarmed a young man while an-
other is seeing lying in a pool of blood.
The shooting has since attracted huge
public debate attracting mixed reaction
from members of the public. Strong con-
demnation has however emanated from
human rights groups and political lead-
ers who have described the killings as a
reflection of the trigger-happy conduct of
police officers.
Recently a report by Amnesty Interna-
tional ranked Kenya top in police killings
with 122 cases of extrajudicial killings
reported in the country out of 177 cases
recorded in Africa.
Reacting to the Eastleigh shooting Kenya
National Commission on Human Rights
(KNCHR) vice chair George Morara said
the killings is a clear indication that the
culture of impunity reigns supreme in
the police service. Police officers think
they can do anything and get away with
it. The culture of impunity is so much in
the police service because those officers
who commit criminal activities know that
they will not be subjected to the full force
of the law, he said.
Morara added that the police service is
increasingly becoming rogue and instead
of condoning the killings Kenyans should
hold those officers involved individually
responsible for their actions.

First Lady Margaret Kenyatta is expected
to officiate as the chief guest at a char-
ity dinner organised to raise funds for
drought stricken victims in the country.
Foreign Affairs Cabinet secretary Amina
Muhammad and other cabinet secretar-
ies, senior government officials, Mem-
bers of Parliament and business persons
are also expected to grace the event on
Saturday at the Intercontinental Hotel in
Nairobi.
Entry at the event will be Sh10, 000 per
person and the amount will go towards

proceeds collected at the event will go to-
wards the drought relief programme.

thority (IPOA) has launched investiga-
tions into the brutal Friday killings saying
it will take legal action against the officers
shown in the video publicly executing the
duo. If there is culpability, we will ensure
those responsible face the full force of the
law. Upon conclusion, the Authority will
make recommendations and forward the
investigation file to the ODPP for his at-
tention, IPOA said in a statement.
The Law Society of Kenya said the gov-
ernment must now admit the existence of
extrajudicial killing in the police force and
demanded for immediate prosecution of
the officers involved in the execution.
The parents of the two boys admitted that
the young men were petty thieves but de-
nied they were members of the notorious
superpower gang that has being terroriz-
ing Eastleigh residents. The family is now
pleading with the government to release
the bodies of the young men for burial.

Legislative laws will soon be put in place to
enable Kenya venture into Sukuk (Islamic
bonds) sector to help boost the countrys
economy that is reeling under huge amounts
of domestic and foreign debts.
The remarks were made by Cabinet Secre-
tary for National Treasury Henry Rotich on
Thursday last week during his presentation of
the countrys budget statement for the years
2017/2018 where he pointed out that plans
are underway to amend laws to facilitate the
introduction of Sukuk (Islamic bonds) in the
country financial sector.
I intend to amend the Public Finance Man-
agement Act to provide for issuance of Sukuk
bond (Islamic bond) as an alternative source
of financing our development projects, The
CS said while addressing the parliament.
The CS said Islamic financing arrangement
is becoming a major source of funding devel-
opment expenditures worldwide and has the
potential to boost the countrys economy and
raise the standard of living for Kenyans.
He proposed amendments to Kenyas Capi-
tal Market Acts in a bid to introduce shariah
compliant financial models that will help posi-
tion the country as a regional hub for Islamic
finance products. In order to attract foreign
direct investment, I will therefore, propose
legislative amendments to the Capital Mar-
kets Act, the Cooperatives Societies Act and
Sacco Societies Act to facilitate for shariah
compliant finance products, he said
If the proposal to introduce sukuk bonds is
ratified by the National Assembly, Kenya will
be part of a handful of countries that trade on
Islamic bonds. Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Unit-
ed Arab Emirates and Kuwait are among the
leading players in this sector.
Islamic bonds have become important Islamic
financial instruments in raising funds by both
the corporate sector and states for raising al-
ternative financing.

who contributed to the funds drive.
A total of US$469,000 US dollars (Sh 48,
400, 800) was collected from Nairobi resi-
dents while Mombasa Muslims donated
US$180,000 (US$18, 576,000).
Some of the mosques in Nairobi that par-
ticipated in the drive include, Masjid Abuba-
kar, Hidaya, Ramadhan, Firdaus, Azhar (8th
street) Swafaa, Alqasa and Maruq mosque,
Eastleigh and Madina mall mosques, Taqwa
and section three mosque all in Eastleigh
area.
Madrasatul Al Amin, Rabbani Group of
Schools in Nairobi also took part in the fun
drive as well as various mosques from South
C, South B, Fedha and Donholm.

Special worship in Rajab
Some people suggest some special modes
of worship to be performed in this night.
Since no special mode of worship is pre-
scribed by the Shari'ah in this night, these
suggestions are devoid of any authority
and should not be acted upon.
It is believed by some that the Muslims
should keep fast on 27th of Rajab. Al-
though there are some traditions attribut-
ing special merits to the fast of this day
yet the scholars of hadith have held these
traditions as very weak and unauthentic
reports which cannot be sufficient to es-
tablish a rule of Shari'ah.
On the contrary, there is an authentic re-
port that Sayyidna 'Umar, Radhi-Allahu
anhu, used to forbid people from fasting
on this day, rather to compel them to eat if
they had started fasting.
It should be borne in mind here that a
"nafl" fast can be observed any day there-
fore, fasting on 27th of Rajab is not prohib-
ited in itself. What is prohibited is the belief
that fasting on this day is more meritori-
ous than fasting in other normal days. One
should not fast in this day with this belief.
But if someone fasts therein, believing it
to be a normal nafl fast, there is no bar
against it.
Sacrifice (qurbani) in the month of Ra-
jab
In the days of ignorance (jahiliyyah) the
Arabs used to offer the sacrifice of a goat
in the month of Rajab. This sacrifice used
to be called "Atirah' or 'Rajabiyyah'. This
sacrifice was offered in the name of dif-
ferent so-called gods and their icons. In
the beginning of Islam, this custom was
retained, but the Muslims modified it by of-
fering the sacrifice of 'Atirah in the name of
Allah instead of the false gods. But finally,
this custom was abandoned and the Holy
Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam prohib-
ited the offering of 'Atirah.
In a tradition of Sayyidna Abu Hurairah,
Radhi-Allahu anhu, reported by both al-
Bukhari and Muslim, the Holy Prophet has
said: "Fara' is nothing and 'Atirah is noth-
ing."
Since the Holy Prophet stopped both
these customs, 'Atirah is no longer a rec-
ognized practice.
'Umrah in the month of Rajab
No tradition of the Holy Prophet salalla-
hu alayhi wa sallam is found to the effect
that it is meritorious to perform Umrah in
the month of Rajab. Conversely Sayyidah
'Aishah, Radhi-Allahu anha, has expressly
negated the presumption by saying that
the Holy Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sal-
lam never performed an 'umrah in the
month of Rajab (Sahih Muslim)
Performing 'Umrah in this month is like
performing it in any other month and no
special merit can be attached to it mere-
ly because it has been performed in the
month of Rajab.
The Salat of "Ragha'ib"
DA'WAH
The Month of Rajab
Another special mode of worship attributed
by some people to this month is the Salat
of Raghai'b. According to the custom of
such people, this Salat is performed in the
night of first Friday of the month of Rajab.
The Salat of Raghaib is said to consist of
twelve rak'ats to be performed in pairs with
six salams, and in each rak'at the surah
al-qadr is recited three times followed by
the Surah-al-ikhlas. This type of Salat is
also not based on any sound source of
Shari'ah.
Therefore, almost all the jurists and schol-
ars of Shari'ah have held that the Salat of
Raghaib is a baseless practice and it is
not permissible to treat it as a recognized
practice of this month. It is true that there
is a tradition, narrated by Razin, the author
of a book of hadith, which attributes the
origin of this practice to the Holy Prophet
but almost all the scholars of the science
of hadith have held it to be absolutely un-
authentic. Therefore, no importance can
be attached to it.
Distribution of breads:
Another baseless practice in the month of
Rajab is that the people bake special types
of breads and, after reciting some verses
and prayers on them, distribute them
among their friends and neighbors.
All these assumptions also have no basis
at all, neither historically, nor according to
the principles of Shari'ah.
Therefore, this baseless custom should
completely be avoided by the true Mus-
lims. Some historians have opined that in
fact, this custom has been coined by some
Shi'ites because the date of 22nd of Ra-
jab when this custom is prevalent is the
date of the demise of Sayyidna Mu'awiyah
whom they take as their biggest enemy.
They took that date as a happy occasion
and made the Sunni Muslims also to cel-
ebrate it on the pretext of the above men-
tioned story.
Be that as it may, it is evident that such
customs have crept into the Muslim soci-
ety by their long association with Hindus
who commemorate different historical
events of their religion in the like manner.
The Muslims must be careful about these
customs, because they are not only an in-
vention of ignorance but also the imitation
of non-Muslims in their religious rituals.
What makes this practice worse is the fact
that the people accustomed to this prac-
tice deem it as necessary as a fardh (obli-
gation); rather they treat it as more neces-
sary than fardh because they do not care
to perform the obligatory Salat or to fulfill
the rights of men obligated on them, but
they are very strict and punctual to perform
these activities.
Moreover, if a person does not observe
this practice, they reproach him and call
him with bad names. Such behavior makes
this custom a bid'ah which is condemned
by the Holy Prophet salallahu alayhi wa
sallam as a misguidance. Therefore, the
Muslims must abandon all such practices

and should not cling to it only because it
has been the practice of their society for
many years.
A Muslim is supposed to follow the dictates
of Shari'ah and not the practice of the soci-
ety, if it violates any of its principles.
Conclusion
The upshot of the above discussion is that
the Shari'ah has not prescribed any spe-
cific way to observe the month of Rajab or
to perform a specific mode of worship or a
ritual in any one of its dates.
However, being a prologue to the month
of Ramadhan, it should be availed of for
preparing oneself for Ramadhan and one
should pray Allah to make him reach the
blessed month and to benefit from its
unique merits.

Harnessing the power of the media

On the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, ten years after
he migrated from his birthplace Makkah to
Madina, Prophet Muhammad (Salallahu
aleyhi wasallam) stood in the Uranah Val-
ley of mount Arafat and gave his last ser-
mon (khutba) to humanity. After praising
and thanking Allah (Subhaanahu wataala),
he said.
O People, lend me an attentive ear, for
I know not whether after this year, I shall
ever be amongst you again. Therefore lis-
ten to what I am saying to you very care-
fully and take these words to those who
could not be present here today.
All those who listen to me shall pass on
my words to others and those to others
again; and may the last ones understand
my words better than those who listen to
me directly.
Be my witness, O Allah, that I have con-
veyed your message to your people. O
People, no prophet or apostle will come af-
ter me and no new faith will be born.
Our Beloved Prophet Muhammad (Salal-
lahu aleyhi wasallam) through these words
placed the responsibility of conveying the
message that conforms to the true nature
of man, the complete message of salvation
which is Islam to mankind.
The importance of propagating the mes-
sage of Islam to others is quite evident in
the words of Allah (Subhaanahu wataala)
and the words of His beloved Prophet
Muhammad (Salallahu aleyhi wasallam).
A Muslims responsibility does not end
by following the true path but extends to
propagating and sharing the same to oth-
ers. Allah Says, You are the best of na-
tions raised up for (the benefit of) men; you
enjoin what is right and forbid the wrong.
(Quran 3:110)
Allah (SubhaanaHu wataala) commands
the best of nations, the Muslims, to call
others to His path when He says in the holy
Quran, Invite to the way of your Lord with
wisdom and good instruction, and argue
with them in a way that is best. Indeed, your
Lord is most knowing of who has strayed
from His way, and He is most knowing of
who is [rightly] guided. (Quran; 16:125)
Allah (SubhaanaHu wataala) instructs us
to invite people to His way. For one to ac-
cept an invitation, there has to be a motiva-
tion; the invitation has to be appealing, it
has to be attractive, it has to resonate well
with the individual, it needs to be perceived
to add value to the one who is invited. The
same has to be the case with the message
of Allah; we need to package it to appeal,
to attract, to resonate and relate well with
the invitee so as to invoke the right desired
outcome. Allah guides us in the manner of
invitation; with wisdom and good instruc-
tions. We are to invite to the way of Allah
and not chase people away from His way.
We are to give glad tidings not to scare
away from His way and when we engage in
a discussion with others it has to be in the
best of manners; beautifully and thought-
fully.
Allah has praised those who invite (call)
in His way. He says, And who is better in
speech than one who invites to Allah and
does righteousness and says, Indeed, I
am of the Muslims. (Quran;41:33)
The Prophet Muhammad Salallahu aleyhi
wasallam specifically commanded, Propa-
gate (relay, deliver) on my behalf, even if it
is one verse. (Bukhari, Tirmidhi)
For Muslims to effectively play their role
on earth; convey the true and proper mes-
sage of Islam to humanity, enjoin what is
good and forbid what is evil, teach man
how to live a full life within the confines of
Gods law, promote justice and peace on
earth guiding man ultimately to true salva-
tion both in this world and in the hereafter,
Muslims need to reach out to the millions
in their nations and the billions who in-
habit the earth. Their call and invite needs
to reach far and wide to all corners of the
world. Among the many channels and av-
enues available to Muslims is the media,
the fourth estate.

Self-appointed community spokespersons misrepresenting Muslims

As the election fever gathers steam ahead
of the August 8th poll, it is a matter of con-
cern how some Muslims are misrepresent-
ing the Muslim community by posing as
spokespersons of the community for per-
sonal or political gain.
Individuals and organizations are increas-
ingly issuing statements in public and in
the media claiming that the Muslim com-
munity is backing aspirant X or Y in the
upcoming elections when in fact they are
only speaking for themselves and not the
community.
There is absolutely no problem for Mus-
lim individuals or organizations to express
support for any legitimate political party, or
for aspirants of any political seat since that
falls within their right of choice and free-
dom.
However, the problem comes when they
start claiming to be speaking on behalf of

the Muslim community when in fact this is
farthest from the truth.
Like any other community, Muslims are
made up of persons with different views
and persuasions with regard to political
parties or aspirants that they root for in the
upcoming polls.
It is therefore disingenuous and unfair for a
person or a group to award themselves the
authority to claim that they speak on behalf
of the whole community with regard to the
ongoing political campaigns when they are
only speaking for themselves, their group
or organization.
Although the Muslim community should
strive for unity to ensure that they vote for
the best candidates with integrity and vi-
sion in the upcoming polls to propel the
country forward, this cannot be achieved
by letting self-appointed spokespersons

senting the views of the Muslim commu-
nity just to get some personal or political
favours from politicians.
Muslim community members are expected
to make their own choices putting the in-
terests of the community and all Kenyans
first in the ballot.
Muslim religious leaders should also resist
the temptation to play partisan politics
in this season but should remain neutral
advocates for the common interests of all
Kenyans regardless of their political per-
suasions including combating graft and
championing for good governance among
other vital issues. Let us all remember that
elections come and go but Islam and the
Muslim community will remain.

Harnessing the power of the media
To capacitate man (empower man) in dis-
charging his responsibility on earth, Allah
(Subhaanahu wataala) created all that is
on earth for man and made all that is on
earth subservient to man for man to use
in his servitude to the Almighty God. Allah
says, It is He who created for you all of
that which is on the earth. (Qurn, 2:29)
Why the media?
The media has been identified as the most
important tool of communication. It wields
immense power that it has been referred to
as the fourth organ of the government; the
fourth estate. The media has always been
an integral part of man. It surrounds us like
the air we breathe, ever present yet rarely
ever considered.
Even though there has been robust growth
of the media sector in Kenya, to a large
extent the Muslim community has lagged
behind in this important tool and industry.
Only one Muslim weekly newsletter (The
Friday Bulletin) has been produced con-
sistently for the last 14 years, only a few Is-
lamic magazines have seen the light of day
and regrettably have lived a short life, there
is no Muslim newspaper, we have less than
six Muslim owned radio stations and about
three Islamic based TV channels serving
more than 40 million Kenyans.
Muslims in Kenya and to a great extent the
world over have been reduced to receiv-
ers and consumers of others information,
education, knowledge, news, opinions,
propagandas, campaigns, ideologies, mis-
conceptions, attacks, morals and values.
There has been assaults on Muslims by the
media, subversion of their morals as well
as intimidation. Muslims need to turn from
being consumers to providers. We need to
provide information, education, knowledge,
news, opinions, values, morals, ideologies
and the right food for the soul through the
media. We are to be the Duaat (Propa-
gaters) and not the propagated to.
Muslims need to firmly establish them-
selves as an alternative choice that caters
for the broad spectrum of the society. For a
good number of people in the world today,
the media is their everyday main source of
information, education and entertainment;
be it through newsletters, magazines,
newspapers, books, recordings, films, in-
ternet, radio, television and social media.
There is therefore, dire need for Muslims to
increase their presence and involvement in
media especially radio, television and so-
cial media. There is need to establish an
official institution and platform for
Teaching and educating on the true way
of Islam,
Calling and inviting the masses to the way
of Allah,
Clearing misconceptions and misunder-
standing about Islam,
Dispelling lies, rumours and myths about
Islam and Muslims.
Providing alternative entertainment to the
elderly, men, woman, youth and children

that conforms to the principles and prac-
tices of Islam.
Articulating issues and agenda affecting
the Muslim community and society at large
Mass communications help determine what
people know; it influences their behavior,
lifestyle, morals, values, relationships,
opinions, perceptions, attitudes, judgement
and decisions. Media determines our val-
ues quicker than any educational system.
Those who control the media play a central
role in peoples everyday lives. They con-
trol the mind. We must clearly understand
this control and also the detrimental influ-
ence it could have on not only ourselves,
but the society as a whole.
If we are to guide humanity we need to
have a platform of media as an exten-
sion of our efforts in educational matters,
daawah, social, economic, humanitarian
and political affairs.
Second to the radio, television is the most
powerful media format. Television is rated
the most believable news source by the
public. One reason behind the power of
television is its ability to deliver emotion
over the airwaves. As they say, a picture
speaks a thousand stories.
We cannot underrate the power of the me-
dia. The media has had a very positive in-
fluence in our lives. The media allows us
to connect. It keeps us in tune with what is
happening on the other side of the earth.
It allows us get to know others better-their
lives, traditions, cultures, values, challeng-
es, successes and much more. It is the
media that keeps us up to date with global
issues, it enhances our general knowledge
by providing us with political, economic
and social issues that take place all over
the world.
Although media has helped connect the
world, it negatively impacts the behavior
and standards of our youth. It provides
wrong models for our children. Teenagers
and children wish to follow persons who
the media showcase as popular, are recog-
nised and get noticed. Sometimes, youth
focus on the bad part of the media and
strive to be a part of it.
We instead need to provide our young
men and women with proper role models
through the media, both historical and con-
temporary, the likes of Sayyidna Abubakar,
Sayyidna Umar, Sayyidna Uthman, Sayy-
idna Ali, Khalid bin Walid, Umar ibn Abdul-
Aziz, Aisha bint Abubakar and many more.
By mid-adolescence, teens have watched
many thousands of hours of television
more time than they spend with their par-
ents, teachers in school and madrassas.
Add to that figure the hours devoted to
surfing the Internet, playing video games,
watching videos and DVDs, listening to
the radio, and attending movies. Who is
shaping the lives of our youth? Is it the par-
ents, teachers, scholars, relatives, friends,
neighborhood or the media?
Unfortunately, media these days has be-
come a commercialized sector, eying the

news which are hot and good at selling.
The goal is to gain television rating points
and business.
Allah describes such a people in the Quran,
And when it is said to them, Do not cause
corruption on the earth, they say, We are
but reformers. Unquestionably, it is they
who are the corrupters, but they perceive
[it] not. (Quran:2; 11-12)
It is the media that helps masses get infor-
mation and also form opinions and make
judgments regarding various issues. How
do we take the message of the Quran and
the Prophet of Allah to the world? How do
we tell the world and remind the world of
the contributions of Muslims and Islam to
the world of science, innovation, aviation,
astronomy, medicine and civilization in
general? How do we correct the miscon-
ceptions being spread about Muslims?
How do we entertain our young ones within
the confines of Islam? How do we provide
an atmosphere where a father, mother,
daughter and son, sister and brother can
sit together benefit from TV without having
to feel uncomfortable and embarrassed al-
ways censoring programs because some-
thing inappropriate, indecent, vulgar dirty
and against common human values is on
the screen? How do we tell Kenyans and
the world contributions made by Muslims in
the struggle for Kenyas independence.
The Answer, Through having our own me-
dia.
Today, through media, Horizon TV, Kenyas
in shaa Allah premier Islamic TV station ini-
tiated by Jamia Mosque Committee, we are
able to reach thousands and possibly mil-
lions beyond the walls and compounds of
this mosque. The capacity of this mosque
is 10,000 worshippers, however, through
Horizon TV we will air the main sermon
and the prayers live and run a repeat in the
evening and we will be able to reach many
more in the comfort of their homes. That is
the power of media.
It is you and I, it is us, it is the society that
defines the role of media in our lives. It has
been said, People are sheep and TV is the
shepherd. It has also been said, Whoever
controls the media controls the mind. Let
us make a positive choice.
Last but not least, media professionals
must be God-conscious and embrace the
sacred trust bestowed upon them and
serve as the nation as the true and just
voice of and for humanity. The media needs
to identify its responsibility and define itself
with integrity, sincerity and honestly. Only
then, will it serve as a great force in building
humanity and edging man closer to God.
Allah says, And cooperate in righteous-
ness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin
and aggression. (Quran; 5:2).

Education ministry announces P1 teachers training vacancies
The Ministry of Education is inviting ap-
plications from Form Four leavers to be
trained as P1 primary school teachers.
Prospective applicants should have at-
tained mean grade of C in the Kenya Cer-
tificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
As an affirmative action, those with visual
and hearing impairments gain entry to
primary teaching training colleges with a
minimum academic requirement of a mean
grade of C- (minus).
According to statement signed by Educa-
tion Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang eli-
gible applicants should personally submit
filled registration forms to zonal education
offices from April 10 and have until May 3
to do so.
He further noted that admission letters for
the successful candidates for both first and
second admission will be dispatched to the
East Africa Islamic Economy summit for Monday
Delegates from East African region will
converge in Nairobi for a two-day East
Africa Islamic Economy Summit (EAIES)
which opens on April 10.
The second edition of the summit is being
organized by the GBS Africa in partnership
with Anjarwalla Khanna law firm and Isfin
(Islamic Market Advisors) and will be held
at the Villa Rosa Kempinski hotel.
The event will bring together delegates
from the East Africa countries to explore
how East Africa can tap into the Islamic
Economy whose global value is estimated
at US$ 2.3 trillion.
On the agenda will be East Africa's halal
economy-a lucrative but invisible market
and opportunities for East Africa countries
for investment in sector such as Takaful
and Retakaful sectors.
Another sector the summit will cover in de-
tail is Halal Tourism and how the regions
struggling tourism sector can get a slice of
Halal tourism, one of the fastest growing
areas of global tourism estimated at $219
billion.
Those expected to attend the summit are
speakers drawn from governments, inter-
national experts on Islamic Finance and
Economy, banking sector leaders and in-
