1) What is the purpose of having/following a "Code of Ethics?

Purpose is in recognition of the importance of our technologies in affecting the
quality of life throughout the world, and in accepting a personal obligation to our
profession, its members and the communities we serve, do hereby commit
ourselves to the highest ethical and professional conduct and agree.

2) When you are faced with an ethical situation, how do you, personally, go about
making a decision? What factors are involved in making your decision? Be specific!
During this semester career fair, I was prepared pretty well for trying to get an
internship for winter break or summer break. On that day, I came to the scene and
tried to have a good conversation with company staffs. However, when I was asked
about whether I am a united state citizen and I told them I am not, they just reply they
dont need any international students. The fact that during that day, the majority of
company staffs attitude were the same. I feel like they didnt treat fairly all students. I
decide to argue with them why but, they just took the PS and didnt have further
action. I know its realistic for international students and I should study hard and
apply companies all over the US.

3) What case study was discussed in your small group? How did the ethical
considerations introduced by your group members differ from your own? How were
they alike? Was your group able to come to a consensus on what the most "ethical"
decision would be?
The Volkswagen cheat on emission test. It violated serval code of ethics which
have 1. To accept responsibility in making decisions consistent with safety, health,
and welfare of the public, and to disclose promptly factors that might endanger he
public or the environment. 2. To be honest and realistic in stating claims on available
data. 3. To seek, accept, and offer honest criticism of technical work, to acknowledge
and correct errors. 4. To avoid injuring others, their property, reputation or
employment by false malicious action. Yes, we come to a consensus on the most
ethical decision would be honest and realistic in stating claims or estimates based on
available date.

4) Reflect on the "Virtue of Ethics" as it relates to the case study your group
discussed. Choose three of the six virtues that you feel are most related to your case
study and briefly write about them. Why did you choose the three you did? How
are they relevant to the case study? Why are the other virtues less relevant? Is there
another ethical virtue you feel could apply to your case study that is NOT included in
the "Virtue of Ethics? " Why or why not?
Honesty, Responsibility and Self-discipline. Because honesty is the pinnacle of
all virtues you can have for yourself. I hold the opinion that honesty is the most
important factors that whether get involve with a person. The Volkswagen had been
cheating on emission test for serval years, so they didnt abide by honesty.
Additionally, if they have responsibility during work, they know they should not cheat
on emission test.
