Process for SMS settings

GSM Modem
Connect GSM modem to a serial port.
Identifying 'Baud Rate' of GSM modem
modem.
Select 'Start\Programs\Accessories\Communications\HyperTerminal' option.

Enter 'SMS' as name. Click 'OK' button.

Select serial port to which GSM modem was connected. Click 'OK' button.
Click 'Restore Defaults' button. Click 'OK' button.

Type 'AT'. Press enter button.


If 'OK' was returned, it confirms that currently 9600 baud rate was set in GSM
modem.
If 'OK' was not returned or typing characters were not displaying correctly then
select 'File\Exit' option.
Click 'Yes' button.

Click 'No' button.


Continue this 'Settings' process with different 'Bits per second' (Baud Rate) after
clicking 'Restore Defaults' button in 'Properties' screen until Baude Rate is
identified.
Changing Baud Rate of GSM Modem Modem.
Type following commands in 'Editor' window of 'HyperTerminal'.
AT+IPR=115200
Press 'Enter' button.
Note : Gives 'OK' as result of 'Baud Rate' change in GSM Modem.
Close 'HyperTerminal' connection.
Restart new connection of 'HyperTerminal' with '115200' baud rate.
Testing of GSM Modem for SMS
Type following commands in 'Editor' window of 'HyperTerminal'.
AT+CMGS=Mobile Number
Press 'Enter' button.
Type message
Press 'Ctrl + Z' at the end of message.
Press 'Enter' button.
Check for SMS in mobile.
Stopping "Echo" from GSM modem (This step is compulsory, for setting baud rate
through NMDL)
Type following commands in 'Editor' window of 'HyperTerminal' to stop "Echo".
AT+ECHO=0
Press 'Enter' button.
Note: Gives 'OK' as result.
ATE0
Press 'Enter' button.
Note: Gives 'OK' as result.
Note: After executing this commands, what ever typed by user in "Editor" window
will not visible. Only response from GSM modem will be visible.
Select 'File\Properties' option.

Select 'Settings' tab sheet.
Click 'ASCII Setup' button.


Un-check "Echo typed characters locally" check box.
Click 'Ok' button.
Click 'Ok' button in "Properties" screen.

Saving the modifications in GSM Modem hard ware


Type following commands in 'Editor' window of 'HyperTerminal' to save settings in
hard ware.
AT&W
Press 'Enter' button.
NMDL
Setting 'SMS' option in NMDL.
Run NMDL.
Select 'Settings\NMDL Settings' option.
Select 'NMDL Configurations' tab.
Click 'Password' button and enter password in 'MMDDHH' format.
Select 'SMS' check box in 'Optional' group.
Click 'Save' button.
NMDL closes to affect the changes.
Fault Entry software.
Run Fault Entry software with 'SMS' define.
It creates 'FaultIndex' table in 'c:\nmrh\skel\dataskel.gdb'.
Select each data logger and create out put.
It generates list of faults in 'FaultIndex' table.
Pump 'FaultIndex' table in dataskel.gdb into current, previous gdb.
Configuring 'SMS' in NMDL.
Restart NMDL.
It creates 'SMSDetails' table in Current, Previous gdbs.
Select 'Configuration-->SMS / Mail Entries' option.
Input details like
Employee - To whom SMS to be sent.
DLNO - Stations in which faults to be checked for SMS.
Fault Type - Faults to be sent as SMS.
Fault Level - Level of fault.
Phone No - To which SMS to be sent.
Port - Serial port to which GSM Modem was connected.
Click 'Save' button.
Testing
Configure a frequently occurring fault for 'SMS' to Site Engineer mobile number.
Check for the occurence of configured Fault.
Check in mobile for 'SMS'.
