(Identified & traceable to Project Quality Plan & updated document list) Para. 3 &
A1
& was approved by the Contractor & Prime Contractor ASNT certified Att. VI
Level III Inspector. Tables

All UT Procedures (Manual/Automatic, ToFD, Phased Array, Guided Schedule Q,

wave, Corrosion mapping, Pipe line girth weld scanning & other Para. 3 &
A2
Computerized imaging techniques) for In-Kingdom application has Att. VI
been reviewed and approved for use by SA OID/NDT Unit Dhahran. Tables

All UT personnel shall be qualified as per SAEP 1142 & SAEP 1140 SAEP-1142 &
A3
and as required by referencing code section (See SAIC-UT-2002) SAEP-1140

OID/NDTU Document Review Sheet is attached to the procedure &

list Revision Specific approval Status & Procedure Comments.
Note: Document Review Sheet & specific OID/NDTU comments Schedule Q,
regarding procedure shall be permanently attached to all Controlled Para. 3 &
A4
Field Copies of NDT procedures for use on the project. Technicians Att. VI
shall be trained and aware of their responsibilities regarding the use of Tables
controlled field copy (procedure) containing Document Review Sheet
Comments and understands of any Comments.

B Written procedure requirements

The written procedure shall adress all essential variables as noted in T-421,
B1
Table T-421, ASME Sec. V (See Attachment 1) ASME Sec V

Only Pulse-echo type instrument shall be used. The instrument shall

be capable of operation at frequency range of atleast 1 MHz to 5MHz T-431,
B2
and shall be equipped with a stepped gain control in units of 2 dB or ASME Sec V
less.

Couplant: The couplant, including additives, shall not be detrimental to

the material being examined. The couplants used on nickel base alloys
T-433,
B3 shall not contain more than 250 ppm of sulfur and for austenitic
ASME Sec V
stainless steel or titanium the couplant shall not contain more than 250
ppm of halides (chlorides plus fluorides).

Calibration Blocks _ Reflectors: Specified reflectors (i.e., side-drilled
T-434.1.1,
B4 holes, flat bottom holes, notches, etc.) shall be used to establish
ASME Sec V
primary reference responses of the equipment.

Calibration Blocks _ Material: The block material shall be of the same

product form and material specification or equivalent P-Number
grouping as one of the materials being examined. For dissimilar metal
welds the material selection shall be based on the material on the side T-434.1.2,
B5
of the weld from which the examination will be conducted. If the ASME Sec V
examination will be conducted from both sides, calibration reflectors
shall be provided in both materials. The block shall receive the same
heatreatment as that of the weld.

Calibration Blocks _ Surface finish: The finish on the scanning

T-434.1.6,
B6 surfaces of the block shall be representative of the scanning surface
ASME Sec V
finishes on the component to be examined.

The calibration block shall be made as per Fig T-434.2.1: Non piping T-434,
B7
calibration block and Fig T-434.3: Calibration block for pipe ASME Sec V

Technique: Straight and angle beam examination techniques should

T-450,
B8 be used. (Other special techniques may be used after approval from
ASME Sec V
SA OID/NDT Unit Dhahran

Instrument Screen height linearity and Amplitude control linearity shall

T-461,
B9 be verified at intervals not to exceed 3 months for analog type
ASME Sec V
instruments and 1 year for digital instruments .

Temperature. For contact examination, the temperature differential

between the calibration block and examination surfaces shall be within
T-462.6,
B10 25F (14C). For immersion examination, the couplant temperature for
ASME Sec V
calibration shall be within 25F (14C) of the couplant temperature for
examination.

Examination: After equipment calibration, the volume to be scanned

T-471.3,
B11 shall be examined with minimum overlap of 10% of the transducer
ASME Sec V
dimension. The rate of search unit movement shall not exceed 6 in/s.

Evaluation: a)
Distance Amplitude Techniques: All indications greater than 20% of
the reference level shall be investigated to the extent that they can be
evaluated in terms of the acceptance criteria of the referencing Code
T-482,
B12 Section. b) Non-
ASME Sec V
Distance Amplitude Techniques: All indications longer than 40% of the
rejectable flaw size shall be investigated to the extent that they can be
evaluated in terms of the acceptance criteria of the referencing Code
Section.

Documentation: All Rejectable indications shall be recorded. As a

minimum, the type of indication (i.e., crack, non-fusion, slag, etc.), T-491,
B13
location, and extent (i.e., length) shall be recorded. (See attachment 1 ASME Sec V
for the exam information that to be recorded)
