Tutorial Questions: January 30, 2017

1. Mary goes to High Rise Shopping Plaza and sees a pair of shoes in Quality Buys
shop window with a price tag of $599.00. She goes to the cashier and tries to get
a discount. She says she only has $500.00 The cashier says the manager of the
store is not in and she cannot take $500.00. Mary leaves the store and promises
to return with the full price money.

Ann walks by and sees the same pair of shoes on display and immediately
considers it a deal. She goes to the counter and pays the advertised price.

Meanwhile, Mary notices the same shoe in a nearby store for $750.00. She
returns to Quality Buys to make the purchase. She is told the last pair was just
sold.

Advise Mary.

2. Paul, Mario and Sligo agreed to enter the missing ball contest in the daily
newspapers, as a joint effort among three football team members. Each week,
they submitted several entries in Sligos name and the cost was borne equally by
the three friends.

Two weeks ago, one of the entries submitted in Sligos name won a prize of
$10,000.00. Sligo said nothing to his friends.

Paul finds out quite by chance that they had submitted a winning entry. He
informs Mario and they approach Sligo. Sligo refuses to share the money. He
says the cheque is in his name alone and he submitted the winning entry.

Advise Paul and Mario.

3. Mr. Balbao distributes a circular to students in his class on 1 st March which reads:
Complete course manual available. Essential for passing exam.
Bring $200.00 to the principals office by 10 th March to get your copy.

All the students in the class sent their $200.00 and collected their copy of the
manual, except Janice, Sharon and John.

Mr. Balbao did not give a copy of the manual to Janice because she dropped off
$100.00, thinking she had enclosed $200.00 in the envelope.
Sharons money reached to Mr. Balbao on the 11th March.

John was hoping to see Mr. Balbao in person to explain his financial difficulties at
the present time and to ask for more to pay.

Janice, Sharon and John fail the exam.
