ARGUMENTATIVE WRITING UNIT

Lesson Title: Writing Workday - revise Argumentative Essay drafts based on Writing Workshop #1s
feedback and practice

Standards:
1.2.a. Initiate and participate effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in
groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grades 1112 topics, texts, and issues, building on
others ideas and expressing their own clearly and persuasively. (CCSS: SL.11-12.1)
2.2.a. Use Key Ideas and Details to:
Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well
as inferences drawn from the text, including determining where the text leaves matters uncertain.

Anticipatory Set (optional):

After greeting students, I will point out once again that even professional writers revise repeatedly, with
poignant looks at J.K. Rowling and Neil Gaiman.

Procedure (step by step through the lesson activities):


I will direct students to revise their Argumentative Essay drafts by reading their essay over again, then
taking a close look at the feedback they received from Writing Workshop 1, and I will circulate to check
on progress and offer support.
I will remind students that Writing Workshop #2 will take place on Monday, and to please bring printed
copies of their revised drafts. (Writing Workshop #1 was this past Tuesday.)
