4. Check the engine flywheel housing opening using a dial indicator.


a. Connect a dial indicator base to the crankshaft flange.

b. Connect the dial indicator pointer to the inside of the flywheel housing mating surface.

c. Zero out the dial on the indicator.

d. Rotate the crankshaft by using a ratchet and a socket on the vibration damper.

e. Rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees to get a run out reading.

f. Record the reading in a few points along the way.

Note: It is important to maintain perfect alignment between the transmission and the engine
flywheel housing. This will ensure the clutch assembly and transmission bearings will operate
smoothly and are in perfect alignment.
