I will check each student's list of words that they have added to
throughout the week. I will ask questions to facilitate the retelling of
the story and write down answers on the whiteboard. I will have
students write down their predictions and we will compare them
throughout the book.

Student Considerations:
For students who need a little more I can have them create venn
diagram of how their mornings are different from the farmers. For
students who need a little help we can read through the book using
choral reading.
Instructional Resources, Materials, and Technology:
The book A Day on the Farm
White board
Beans
Stamps
Ink
Computers/Istation
PROCEDURES:
The Beginning (a.k.a. Anticipatory Set): (4 minutes)
Today we will be switching classroom for reading time. During
your guided reading you will be going with the teacher you have been
assigned. During word study we will be doing things a little different.
You can either choose to write out your words in beans or with stamps.
Who can tell me what our voice level should be at when we are at word
study? (level 1/whispering). After you have done all your words, you
may switch the way you are writing out your words. Also dont forget
that you have words that you have been adding all week into your
notebook that you can also spell out. For Istation we are going to work
hard. Should we be pulling the headphones out of the computer? Or
messing with the computer screen? Or messing with our neighbors
computer? Okay everyone go ahead to your first choice.
The Middle: (30 minutes)
1. Guided Reading:
1. Before: For guided reading groups D, they will be reading
the book A Day on the Farm. I will start out by talking
about how every day the farmer has different duties he has
to do. In the beginning of the book the animals talk about
the duties that the farmer has to do while they are waiting
for him to wake up. We will go through the book just
looking at the pictures to see if we can determine the types
of duties that the animals think the farmer has. Have
students write down their predictions. After going through
and making the predictions we will then read to see what
duties the farmer actually has. I will then point out the
words (Write on the whiteboard) morning (p.2), Farmer
(p,2), goats (p.12), and fence (p.15). I will then ask the
students to use the pictures to see if they can determine
what these words are.
During: While we are reading the book we will discuss the
differences and similarities in the predications and what we
actually read in the book.
After: After reading ask the students to name some of the
responsibilities that the farmer had to do on the farm
throughout the book. What animal was in charge of waking
the farmer up in the end of the book? How does your
mornings compare to the farmers? Who would have to feed
the animals if the farmer didnt wake up? What other jobs
do farmers have to do throughout the day to keep the farm
going?
2. Word study: For work study the two different groups will be
working with their spelling features. The blue group has -ay and
-ai. The white group has fr-, cr-, fl-, and cr-. During their word
study time the will have two options. They can either write their
words out using beans or they can stamp their words into their
notebook. Throughout the week they are encouraged to add
other words with the same spelling feature into their notebook.
After they are done with their list they can switch their method
and use the other words that they found or they can keep the
same method.
2. Istation: During Istation the students will be working on the
computers independently on Istation.
The End (a.k.a. Closing): (5 minutes)
Okay class it's time to sit down at our seats. Thank you for
working quietly through our reading time. Does anyone have any
words that they added to their list this week that they want to share?
Remember that you can also add these words to your list if you haven't
already. Those were some really great words and dont forget that we
have our spelling test on Friday so make sure you go over those words
at home and be ready for the test. Okay its time to pull out your
morning message.
