Scientific and Theoretical Knowledge

Element 1.1: Describe and apply physiological and biomechanical concepts related to skillful movement, physical
activity and fitness.

Artifact: Motor Behavior Project

Date: Fall of 2016

Reflection:

My knowledge of motor development theory and principles was demonstrated in EXS 297 Motor Behavior
using my final project. The project was a group assignment although due to the length I cut out other members
parts. The project is based on a high school student attempting to become a starter at quarterback and cornerback
on the football team. The project included principles of motor development such as open/closed,
Discrete/continuous/serial, gross/fine, descriptive/prescriptive feedback, etc.
The motor behavior project relates to element 1.3 due to the fact, I could relate different principles and
theories to preparing quarterback for a starting position. The project allowed me to apply my knowledge of different
theories and principles to create practice plans to benefit student with different perspectives. The different styles of
application, feedback, and central focus of practices portrays my ability to improve students skill movements,
physical activity, and fitness.
Obtaining a vast knowledge of theories and principles of motor development. Helps to make informed
decisions on what content to teach a wide variety of students to be physically active for a life time. Individualizing
teaching for students is very important to understanding what is best and how to implement the skills. As students
mature relating the content to these theories and principles. Can assist students in understanding, the what and
why of the activities we are participating in during the lessons. My goal as a physical educator is to help all students
reach the highest level of skill proficiency they can possibly obtain.
