Standard 2

Skill and Fitness Based Competence

Element- 2.1 Demonstrate personal competence in motor skill

performance for a variety of physical activities and movement
patterns.

Artifact: Completed activity classes from the beginning of Cortland

until this semester

Date: Spring 2016-Spring 2017

Reflection:

What:
The picture of the classes that I have taken shows that I have been involved in
a variety of physical activities. In these activity classes I have succeeded and
all of the activity classes have reflected upon personal competence in motor
skill performance for a variety of physical activities and movement patterns. As
shown in the image of my completed activity classes, SUNY Cortland strives to
make their physical education majors competent in a variety of activity classes
through physical activity and movement patterns.

Now what:
The activity classes relate to Element 2.1 in the following manner, SUNY
Cortland has a curriculum based on having the physical education majors
competent in a variety of different physical activities and movement patterns.
This is shown through the class PED 180 which I obtained an a+. This course
challenges students to succeed in what SUNY Cortland called 6 plus 3 over 3.
This means 6 competencies plus 3 proficiencies over 3 categories. This is to
make it so the students are well rounded and prepared for the future when they
are completed with their degree. This is just the beginning of the activity
classes as we have to take nearly 12 activity classes that make us competent in
a variety of physical activities and movement patterns.

So what:
This artifact is important to my teaching based on my use of experiences
through these activity courses that helped make me a well-rounded physical
education teacher. The intention of both the artifact and this reflection is based
on demonstrating personal competence in motor skill performance for a variety
of physical activities and movement patterns, which is shown through the
activity courses. The content was used to show that SUNY Cortland has strived
to help me become personal competence in motor skill performance for a
variety of physical activities and movement patterns, which is important for me
to teach when I finish my degree at SUNY Cortland.
