Course : PETROLEUM GEOLOGY

Level : Degree

Credit Unit : 3

Contact Hour : 4

Part : 3
[1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8]

Course Status : Core

[Core / Non Core]

Prerequisite : Nil

Course Objectives : Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
1. Explain the structures, tectonic, traps and lithology and
identify geological factors that lead to accumulation of oil
and gas.
2. Describe the properties to the formation of petroleum
3. Relate geological and geophysical data for exploration to
perform volumetric calculations, identify risk and
uncertainties

Course Description : Knowledge of the geological foundations of petroleum

formation and exploration is essential to any career in the
hydrocarbon industry. It also provides a basic introduction to
geology and develops the knowledge and skills necessary for
understanding petroleum formation, migration and
accumulation, and methods of detecting, measuring and
developing petroleum reserves.
