2- Identify and demonstrate the interpersonal skills needed to make and keep a friend. 3 Identify the interpersonal skills necessary to build quality relationships. 4 Demonstrate respect for others personal opinions and ideas ASCA National Standards: PS:A2.8 Learn how to make and keep friends Learning Objective: - I can state what it means to be a good friend - I can name good qualities of a friend Materials Needed: -Friendship Soup video -Friendship Soup Book (Storybird) -Friendship Soup worksheet/pencils Formative Assessment: Students will work with a partner to create a page in their classroom book titled Friendship Soup. Lesson Preparation: Essential Questions: 1. What does it mean to be a good friend? 2. What are good qualities of a friend? Engagement/Hook: Students will watch the video titled Friendship Soup Instructional Procedures: Counselor(s): 1. Counselor will explain to students that our topic for today is friendship. 2. Counselor will ask students to answer essential questions listed above. 3. Counselor will have the students watch the video titled Friendship Soup where they will see other kids explain what qualities they think are important in a friendship. 4. Counselor will then inform students that they are going to make a classroom book about friendship. She will pair the students up and give them a worksheet to complete where they will have to come up with two friends, reasons why they are friends, and ingredients for their friendship soup. 5. After the students complete their worksheet they will come to the counselor who will then have them select a picture from Storybird to go along with their story. 6. The counselor will then combine all of the pictures/pages into one book for the class. Students: 1.Students will listen as counselor explains the topic for the day. 2. Students will participate in the discussion about the essential questions listed above. 3. Students will listen video. 4. Students will listen as the counselor explains their activity for the day and the students will complete their worksheet with their partner. 5. Students will then take their worksheet to the counselor who will then have them select a picture for their page to add to the storybird book. 6. Students will view the completed book when the counselor shares it via e-mail with their teacher.
