These Are The 5 Most Hated Countries In Asia

Ralph Jennings , CONTRIBUTOR

I cover under-reported stories from Taiwan and Asia.

Political repression, cultural superiority and arrogance or worse toward

outsiders will earn any country a bad name. Thats especially true for large or
well-off countries, the idea being if youre strong, be nice too. No wonder a
certain five spots in Asia rank on a lot of most-disfavored-nations lists
generated online. Israel, Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom and
usually somewhere else in Western Europe make a lot of the lists, which are
presumably based on surveys of ordinary people.

The Asian countries you see most often are here along with the usual
reasons:

A woman puts the finishing touches of makeup on an activist dressed as

colonial-era Japanese soldiers prior to a re-enactment of a 1919 crackdown in
which hundreds of protesters were killed during demonstrations calling for
independence from Japan, which occupied the Korean peninsula from 1910 to
1945, in Seoul on March 1, 2014. (ED JONES/AFP/Getty Images)

North Korea. Detractors of this lonely communist state lament its torment of
political prisoners, tolerance of famines among the population of nearly 25
million and strict curbs on freedom of expression. Add to that the North
Korean governments periodic tests of powerful missiles aimed at Japan and
South Korea. I just feel bad for the people, one North Korea critic says on a
despised countries list by online list builder The Top Tens. China may be the
only liker of North Korea and even it gets testy sometimes.

China. Taking territory, perceived disregard for international laws and a

history of poorly made exports earn this massive Communist country a berth
on a lot of hated-nation lists. Arrogant country, a commentator wrote to The
Top Tens. China has expanded holdings in the hotly disputed South China Sea
since July despite a world arbitration court verdict suggesting it lacked a legal
basis to nip off the rival claims of Southeast Asian countries, for one thing.
There are also human rights and speech freedom issues. This most-hated list
adds air pollution and taking away foreign jobs as causes. Chinas immediate
neighbors, Vietnam for example, are among Chinas worst detractors.

Japan. China, South Korea and other parts of Asia resent Japan for its brutal
World War II-era Some feel Japan didnt adequately atone for its pre-war
occupation of China or for the use of comfort women from occupied
countries during wartime. Now Japans about the most developed country in
Asia, stoking resentment. Due to China and Japans jaded history, many
Chinese people hate the country of Japan, the American media outlet
Gazette Review says on its list. Since Chinas population is so massive, the
number of people who hate Japan from China is enough to put Japan on this
list.

South Korea. This Asian country struggles for a good rep mostly because of
cross-cultural breakdowns. People there are accused of a superficial culture
yet being haughty about it, unable to make friends with outsiders but willing
to laugh at the same, according to comments on the lists. A historic taste for
dog meat erodes South Koreas name for some. The country gets a not-so-
honorable mention on coms most hated country list as well as others.

India. This country of 1.3 billion people gets a bad rap for perceived over-
population, putting a strain on world resources. India critics also point to rape
and sexual assault cases as well as a penchant for religious extremism.
Indias social caste system that dooms lower-status people to lifetimes of
poverty adds to the dislike. People of this country believe in discrimination
on the basis of caste, creed, religion, gender, color and race, news website
com says. The poor in this society has no respect as compared to the
respect of rich people.
