Definitions of Human Computer Interaction (1)

Humancomputer interaction (commonly referred to as HCI) researches the

design and use of computer technology, focused on the interfaces between
people (users) and computers. Researchers in the field of HCI both observe the
ways in which humans interact with computers and design technologies that
let humans interact with computers in novel ways.

User Experience (UX)
User experience design (UX, UXD, UED or XD) is the process of enhancing user
satisfaction by improving the usability, accessibility, and pleasure provided in
the interaction between the user and the product. User experience design
encompasses traditional humancomputer interaction (HCI) design, and
extends it by addressing all aspects of a product or service as perceived by
users.

User experience (UX) focuses on having a deep understanding of users, what

they need, what they value, their abilities, and also their limitations. It also
takes into account the business goals and objectives of the group managing

Usability (1)
Usability is a quality attribute that assesses how easy user interfaces are to
use. The word "usability" also refers to methods for improving ease-of-use
during the design process.

Usability (2)
Usability is defined by 5 quality components:
1. Learnability: How easy is it for users to accomplish basic tasks the first time they
encounter the design?
2. Efficiency: Once users have learned the design, how quickly can they perform tasks?
3. Memorability: When users return to the design after a period of not using it, how
easily can they reestablish proficiency?
4. Errors: How many errors do users make, how severe are these errors, and how easily
can they recover from the errors?
5. Satisfaction: How pleasant is it to use the design?
