LA REVELACIN DE JUAN
Nicols Presser
20: 8.
Palabras clave:
Ezequiel, Gog y Magog, Tipologa, Intertextualidad, Escatologa.

remozada. En la siguiente tabla se puede observar.

15 The new element, wich sets Ezk 38-39 apart from other prophets, and wich
probably prepares the way for later apocalyptic speculations concerning the eons, is the
idea of 'the double eschaton'. (Johannes Botterweck y Helmer Ringgren, Diccionario
Teolgico del Antiguo Testamento vols. XIII [Madrid: Ediciones Cristiandad, 1978], 2: 425).
EZEQUIEL APOCALIPSIS
Reino Milenial 37 20:4-7
Gog y Magog 38-39 20:7-10
Nueva Jerusaln 40 20:11-15
There is an interesting order in Ezekiel that parallels Rev. 20. After the nation is
resurrected and reconstituted (the valley of dry bones in Ezek. 36 = Rev. 20:46),
the coalition of nations comes to destroy them (Gog and Magog, Ezek. 38 = Rev.
20:79a) yet are destroyed themselves (Ezek. 39 = Rev. 20:9b14), and then the
glorified people of God enjoy the eschatological temple (Ezek. 4048 = Rev. 21:1
22:5).19
1983), 304.
fin, enfoque contextual-bblico [Buenos Aires: ACES, 2000], 10).
18 The order especially is taken from Ezekiel. In Ezekiel we have the Messianic reing
in 37, Gog and Magog and their destruction in 38-39, and the new Jerusalem in 40 ff.; in
Rev. the millennial kingdom in 20: 4-6, Gog and Magog in 20: 7-10, the resurrection of
the dead and the las judgment in 20: 11-15, and the new heaven, the new earth and the
new Jerusalem in 21: 1ff. (Gerhard Kittel y Gerhard Friedrich, Theological Dictionary of the
NT, [Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 1971], 1: 790).
19 Grant R. Osborne, Revelation: Baker exegetical commentary on the New Testament (Grand
Rapids, Mich.: Baker Academic, 2002), 712.
Ezekiel uses three time expressions miyyamm rabbm (~yBr ~ymYm), after many
days (38:8); beacharit hashshanim (~ynVh tyrxaB) in the latter years (38:8); and
beacharit hayyamim (~ymYh tyrxaB), in the latter days/ in days to come (38:16) -
which give a general future time framework to this prophecy.22 En relacin al
como the final, ultimate, universal victory by the Messiah over the cosmic forces
of evil.23
25 That biblical picture is presented by Christ himself in Matthew 24 and is the gist of
the entire book of Revelation. Thus both Ez 38-39 and Rev 20: 7-9, wich alludes ta these
Ez chapters by way of 'Gog and Magog' (Rev 20:8), describe the warfare that Satan and
his minions now wage against the church, with a final all-out battle coming before the
end. (Hummel, Concordia Commentary A Theological Exposition of Sacred Scripture Ezekiel 21-
48 [Saint Louis: Concordia Publishing House, 1957, 2007], 1100).
Mealy maintains that Ez 39 predicts an attack of Gog and Magog in the Second
Coming of Christ and Ezekiel 38 predicts a different attack of Gog and Magog at
the end of the millennium (pp 130-133, 187-188) ... the attack on the cap. 39 occurs
more around the time of restoration, while the attack in Chapter 38 occurs after
Israel has been restored and the land has enjoyed a long period of peace.26

30 It is virtually undeniable that John sees these two entirely different contexts for the
battles of Ezequiel 38 and 39. For he cleary sees the battle of Har-Magedon, which
inaugurates the millennium, as fulfilling the latter (Rev 19. 17-18; Ez 39. 17-20), and the
battle ending the millenium as fulfilling the former (Rev 20. 7-10; Ez 38. 1; 38. 22).

36 By showing the reader different illustrations, John first reveals what happened to
the beast and the false prophet who fought a battle against Christ and lost. They were
thrown into the lake of fire and burning sulfur (19:1921). This picture reveals nothing
of Satan, but a second one taken from a different point of view exhibits Satan
participating in that same battle and losing it. Satan suffers the same fate by being thrown
into the lake of burning sulfur. This is the same battle we read of in 19:19, and John is
providing two sketches of the same event (see also 16:14). (Simon J. Kistemaker, New

38 Ezekiel 38:17 is the key verse of the prophecy: This is what the Sovereign Lord
says: Are you [Gog] not the one I spoke of in former days by my servants the prophets
of Israel? At that time they prophesied for years that I would bring you against them.
This statement affirms that God through his prophets spoke about Gog in former days.

40 In early Christian times, Gog and Magog were often identified with the Romans
and their emperor. Eusebius seems to have been the first Churchfather to suggest this
identification. In his view, Gog is the prince of Ros, which stands for the Roman
Imperium (Dem. Ev. 9, 3.6). (Karel van der Toorn, Bob Becking and Pieter W. van der
Horst, Dictionary of deities and demons in the Bible [Grand Rapids, Mich.: Brill Eerdmans,
1999], 375).

primitiva. (Kenneth A. Strand, Perspectives in the book of Revelation [Ohio: Ann Arbor
