Beginning the Lesson

mins. Class Opener
Today is the first day of the unit 1 in Grade 3. As the student enter the classroom, they
will be seen the word N_ _N (with missing letters). However there will be definition on
the board under it and with 10 strings around it. To review them of what they learned on
the previous year (Grade 3), they will read out loud the definition and try to figure out
what the word is. After figuring it out, they will say an example of noun in word or
phrases they can remember about Noun and the teacher will write on the board

The teacher will assist the students if ever they have a wrong example. The teacher will
ask help to those who can help in giving a right example. After everyone gave 10
examples, the teacher will introduce to them that they will be studying today about
NOUNS.

Developing the Lesson


2-3 Introducing Proper and Common Nouns
mins. To start the discussion, the teacher will show to the students a video clip about Common
(video) and Proper Nouns. After the video watching, the teacher will review the video by asking
the following questions:
8-10 What is Proper Nouns?
mins What is Common Nouns?
What is the first tip on identify common Nouns?
What is the second tip on identifying proper nouns?
Note: The sequel of answering the questions is base on passing the ball. The teacher
will be the first one to throw the ball, a student who can catch or the closest person where

the ball falls will answer the question. Then the student who answered the question, will
be the one to throw the ball again for the next question.

10-12 Identifying Noun in a Sentence


mins. To continue the lesson, the teacher will present four sentence example:
Example No. 1: A boy danced last night.
Example No. 2: That ball is round.
Example No. 3: She is studying at Universitas Pelita Harapan
Example No. 4: Valentines Day is special to us.
The teacher will call for one student on each example to identify the nouns by underlining
it. After they all got the correct answer. Ask them what do they notice on each noun.
Does it refer to a person? Thing? Place? Or event? At the end on exchanging ideas, the
class will have to determine a way of identifying nouns. It is through looking to the words
in the sentence that falls under the four categories of nouns. In addition, they will notice
that most of the nouns serve as the main subject of the sentence.

Closing the Lesson

mins The teacher will distribute a paper to the students. There will be 3 item test. Their task is
to list all the nouns in the sentence and mark P for Proper Nouns and C for Common
Nouns.

3-5 After they are done with the quiz, they will check it. Upon checking it, it is the time for
