The "Service Data Point" SDP of the OCS uses the standard Diameter Credit Control
protocol (TS 32.299) to perform the on line charging based on flexible rules.

It directly interfaces with the GGSN-PGW on the Gy interface to charge the data GPRS
usage (Session charging with Reservation). For the voice and SMS service (Event
charging with Reservation) it includes a front-end CAMEL, the "Service Control Point"
(SCP) providing Camel phase 1 and phase 2 for voice, and Camel phase 3 for SMS and the
SGSN based data charging using Camel phase 3.

The flexibility and scalability of the system is provided by the full separation between
the Diameter Interfaced SDP and the SCP CAMEL SS7 front end.

Dual system active-active with load sharing, zero service interruption in case of failure
of one half. Overall availability in the better than 99.99% class. The load sharing is
performed by the GMSC (SS7) or the Diameter Routing Agent (DRA) for Diameter
charging.

The OCS is easily configurable to provide smooth or discontinuous charging based on

the monthly cumulated traffic for voice, SMS or data.

1- Camel Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3, Phase 4 support (CSI phase 4)
Full support of all parameters in the CAMEL specification TS 29.078. For Phase 3 (SMS)
allows to implement charging schemes based on SMS submission or successful SMS
delivery. For phase 3 (SMS and GPRS) the full credit reservation, until the result is
known, is supported.

Includes all Camel Phase 4, such as Initial Call Attempt (generate wake up calls), Move
Leg, Split Leg allowing to implement a Camel based Call Back service.

The Credit is reserved when the SMS-MO is received, when the result of the SMS-MT
Delivery is known, it is either confirmed (SMS-MT received) or released (SMS-MT failure
or retry). Simple Event charging immediate without Reservation is also available.

3- Diameter Charging Application extensions support

Proprietary AVPs of the GORI extensions, of IMS Charging (TS 32.260) and PS domain
charging (TS 32.251).

4- Statistics, Reports and Alerting

The system provides rated tickets for all offline charging transactions. The system can
then be used also for post-paid charging by setting all the subscribers with a CAMEL
profile and having regular transfer to the invoice system. A Traceback tool with filters is
provided to select particular MSISDNs, IMSIs, PLMNids, GT or IPs of distant visited
SGSNs or MMEs.

In case of a limit of credit various policies can be set in the rating engine: blocking the
traffic, alerting the customer services by emails with different contents based on the
thresholds.
