Student Outcomes
Introduce students to UW Library resources and services.
Facilitate a student-centered and active learning environment in a large seminar setting.
Aid students in searching for and evaluating web-based information sources about major and career
choice.

Assignment Information
Students are required to create an online portfolio in which they reflect on their freshman year and
develop a plan to help the succeed both socially and academically into their sophomore year.
The students need a general overview of library resources ad services and web resources to help them
research future majors and careers.

STUDENTS WILL BE BRINGING LAPTOPS

Outline
1. Introductions & Overview (3 minutes)
2. Students write top 3 things their ideal library has. (Lauren/Nicole)
a. Students list on their own (2 minutes)
b. Facilitate a stand up sit down activity (5 minutes)
c. Anticipate some answers:
i. Writing help, comfortable seating, quiet study rooms, cafe, etc.

3. Library resources and services- 10 minutes (Nicole & Lauren)


a. 16 Libraries!
b. Getting help
c. Study Spaces
d. Tech equipment & help
e. Textbooks
f. Resources: books, articles, ebooks & more/ Library research: research guides, citation help etc.
g. OWRC & Subject librarians
