10 min Whiteboard notation- Introduce ticka-ti by writing in front
of students the way we show sixteenth notes.
Heartbeat Strips- Have students tap the beat on each
heart in front of them as they speak the rhythm.
First all tas: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
Then: ta, ta, ta, ta
Now our rhythm: ti-ti, ticka-ti, ti-ti, ta, ti-ti, ti-ti, ti-ti,
ti-ti, ta.
Collect strips and have students sit criss-cross apple
souse in a circle ready to watch and learn the cup song.
Make sure everyone is sitting where they can see my
demonstration first.

Help students remember which hand is their right
because they will be using it the most. Everyone find
your right hand, hold it up, put it on the shoulder of the
person to your right, hold it up again, put it on your right
knee, look at it and say.. you are my right hand
Pass the cups around. Show me you are ready when cup
is placed upside down in front of your bellybutton and
hands are up.

Step 2: Demo first part and have students copy after.
When they are ready to move on to the second part,
make sure verbal instructions are very clear as well as
