I want to see the effect of technology on students and their ability to learn. I
want to look at students with special needs and students in the general
education classroom to see how the use of technology can affect these two
groups of students in their learning. The best way to conduct a quantitative
study would be to show two different types of students, ones with special
needs (with various disabilities) and ones in a general education classroom.
This study will show how technology is beneficial and all the resources that
are really provided by technology within one device and the internet. It will
also be able to show educators why they should integrate technology to benefit
their students and have their students best interest in mind. One of the most
important attributes of an effective teacher is to put your students best interest
ahead of other considerations. This would take place in an elementary school
setting with both types of classrooms. In each set of the study, the same
number of students would need to be present for the study to be accurate, with
this being said I understand that some students may be absent or not able to do
the study. One class will receive tablets and laptops, while the other class will
have no technology. Both sets of students without technology will have the
teacher lecturing with the use of a power point or other instructional method.
In doing this study, I will be looking at how well technology helps the students
to learn a specific topic based on the use of technology compared to not using
technology. The study will last one week and each set of classes will be taught
the same thing as their pair. A learning check will be given at the end of the
week to show how tell the students learned what was being taught by their
instructor. The exact grade of students is not decided, because any grade could
chose to participant and therefore the subject can not be decided. The study
will be split into two separate studies based on the type of classroom that is
being tested.
One class will be able to
use technology after the
teacher lectures and take
notes using any method
that they prefer (typed or
hand written). To study
they will then be able to
use any resources they
found online or by use of
their given device. A
teacher will lecture the
other class as well, who
will use the same lecture
material as the other
teacher, but the students
must take hand written
notes then study these
notes and nothing else.

At the end of the week, a

learning check will be
conducted in each class. The
learning check will consist of
the same questions to see
which method was more
effective in the students
learning. The learning check
will be written with short
answer and multiple choice
questions about the topic
that was taught.

A possible outcome of this study would be the students with technology doing significantly better on

the learning check than the students without. The students in the general education classroom with

technology will be able to use videos, other websites and quizlets to study and help them learn the

materials. The students that did not use technology will not do as well because they will only have

their hand written notes to study and the teachers word to remember.
One class will be able to
use technology after the
teacher teaches the
students how to do a
task. These students will
be able to play games
and watch videos to help
them learn how to
accomplish this task. A
teacher will teach the
other class as well, who
will use the same
material as the other
teacher, but these
students will only have
the teachers voice and
demonstration to help
them learn

task at hand.
