I fulfilled my goal in this class by learning new vocabulary and learning about human

inequality. I came into this class uneducated and uninterested in politics. This class taught me

there is more than Presidential Elections to politics. Politics includes discrimination of all kinds

including racism, sexism, privilege and oppression. This class was really an eye opener for

myself and I enjoyed learning about human inequality.

This class added to my knowledge through class lecture because those lectures provided

me with new vocabulary that I was unaware existed. The discussion posts gave me the

opportunity to use the vocabulary learned which helped me get used to using the terms

appropriately.

I have learned to speak up for my own rights. After learning about sexism in the work

field and taking the path of least resistance has helped me understand that it is my right to speak

up for what I believe in.

My contribution I made for my peers was during our group presentations based on the

book we read in class. My group read the book Lakota Woman The book was interesting to

read and sad to hear about how law enforcement would discriminate against the Native

Americans. The book also shared many different situations of sexism and gender roles.

My peers contributed information to myself by presenting and sharing information about

the books they read as a group. The other two books that were presented information on were

called Lives on the Edge and The Long Haul.

Taking this course has changed the way I view things in the world around me. It has

made me more aware of the problems and challenges many people are faced with because of

who they are and where they come from.

The required reading for this class was a book called Privilege, Power and Difference.

This book was very interesting to read because it came from the point of view of a successful

White male who talked about how privilege works in this world. In reading this book I learned

that I myself am part of the problem of discrimination because I choose not to speak up on

difference. I contribute to this problem because I stay quiet if a problem arises and if it has

nothing to do with me Id rather avoid conflict.

I am also learning to view situations through a different lens. We watched a movie in

class called Crash I have seen this movie prior to this class but we were advised to watch it

through a different lens and identify the different discrimination roles that take place throughout

the movie. I really enjoyed writing my paper on this movie because it taught me to break down

the characters and discuss in depth the discrimination roles that I observed.
