Fade in:

Ext. Outside of dingy building-Dark/Night

A very beaten door on a brick wall, surrounded by incomparable

darkness.

An unknown man in a dark hoodie stands before the door, nervous,

and shaking. He takes a hesitant approach to the door, takes a
deep breath, and walks in.

Int. Inside of a brightly lit room (Same moment)

Inside of the support group building. Lights like that of a
hospital, beating down hard enough to wake up a dead man.
Although most of the people in the room have the appearance of
such.

three nervous and shaky people sit in an incomplete circle

looking around anxiously, The Hooded Man sits in one of the empty
chairs. Everyone appears to be avoiding eye contact with one
another. Suddenly, a soft, well spoken female voice is heard from
the shadows of the room.

Soft Female Voice(V.O)

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, This is the regular meeting of
the 5th Street Fellowship Group of Narcotics Anonymous. My name
is Tara and Im a former heroin addict.

Everyone Collectively (Except Jack)

Hi Tara!

Tara (Camera stops on Jacks face)

I see we have some new faces, dont be shy. No one here will
judge you. How about we start the evening off with a prayer.

Tara(Everyone repeating after her, each time she stops)

God,
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
and
Wisdom to know the difference.

As the lady speaks, the camera pans across all four of The
Junkies faces. There is a blonde girl with messy hair and eyes
as dead as winter, a black man with ripped clothing is scratching
at a never ending itch, a man in a rugged suit who cant stop
looking at his watch as if he wants to avoid being seen as the
elephant in the room. The camera stops as The Hooded Man takes
off his hood and reveals himself as a built man, with curly brown
hair, his face and hands with light touches of oil and grease. He
smells of diesel gas.

Tara
The 5th Street Fellowship Group of Narcotics Anonymous is a
fellowship that shares our experience, strength and hope with
each other that we may solve our common problem and help others
to recover.

Tara ( Camera stopping on each person's face)

The only requirement for membership is the desire to get better
and stop using.

Tara ( Camera cuts back to tara)

You dont owe anything to be a member, were totally self
supporting so donations are accepted and appreciated!

*Donation basket getting passed around*

Tara
How about we go around the circle and introduce ourselves.
(Camera cuts to Jack) Let's start with you, what is your name?

Jack
(pause) Im Jack, and I am a meth addict.
(Everyone)
Hi Jack.

Tara
Would you like to share a little bit about yourself?

Jack
Yeah I guess so.

Camera fades out and scene changes:

Mechanic Shop, loud noises ring throughout a busy car shop. Cars
roll in and out. Its easy to lose focus on whats going on. Easy
to lose focus on the corruption beneath the surface.

Jack(V.O)
I was a mechanic. Woke up in the morning, got my coffee, got in
my car and headed to work. You know, just your normal life.

Jack (V.O)
My boss had been paying me 18$ an hour..(emphasis)

Jack
Damn it!

Boss
Hey Jack! I need you to work overtime, we have a lot of cars to
get through tonight and I need you for a special project.

Jack (slightly annoyed)

No problem, long as youre paying for my dinner.(chuckles)

Boss
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah.

Jack is working hard on a car in the shop, having a small

struggle with diagnosing it. Noise is thundering and then a
sudden quiet moment as his boss comes up and asks him to work
overtime.
Scene change: Late at night
Jack is in the workshop working on the car with his boss, it is
late at night.

Jack
This car is like your ex wife man, she takes everything you got
and she still aint working!

Boss
Yeah, real funny asshole. I think I got the solution to our
problem though.
*Pulls out a pipe and an 8 ball of meth*

Jack
What are you doing? Are you crazy?

Boss
Getting a little boost. What? Are you going to go tell on me?

Jack
No man, I just aint taking part in that shit. Youre insane man,
Im leaving!

Boss
Have you forgotten who I am? Youre going to take part or
youre going to regret it.
*Pulls out a picture of his daughter*
Jack (V.O)
*silent*
I knew he was crooked. I never thought he would be the violent
type though.

Boss
*Gives him the pipe*
Better start smoking up, Jack.

I like you Jack, dont forget that.

Jack begins to smoke up with regret in his eyes, he immediately
feels like all of his senses have been heightened. He feels
great, in a haze he starts working on the car like a bolt of
lightning. Within ten minutes Jack crashes.

Scene Change: Jacks Binge

Jack is now a full blown addict suffering from withdrawals, he
hasnt been home in a week or two and has been binging on meth.

Jack(V.O)
I was awful, I spent weeks away from my family. That son of a
bitch made me do it. I love my kids you know? I just couldnt be
around them while Im trying to get better, I just needed one
more hit. Next thing you know, I always need just one more hit.

Tara
Jack, thank you so much for sharing. Would anyone else like to
share, how about you Abigail?

And with lifeless eyes Abigail begins to share.

Abigail
Im Abigail, Im addicted to pills

Scene: Dark Lit Home

Sudden signs of something wrong here arises as you look around,
things seem placed to give off a positive impression.
Underneath, there is a sad and aggressive environment
underneath.

Abigail
It started when my mom left me and my sister with our father. She
ran off with another man
Our father was always nice around our mom, but when it was just
me and my little sister hed get aggressive.

Abigail
Our mom would work long nights at a restaurant and sometimes she
wouldn't be home for days at a time. He would start to drink and
yell at us, and one day he hit my little sister for spilling a
drink on the floor. She was 10 at the time, and I was about 16.
He started hitting us more often but never in any places that our
mom could see.

Abigail and her sister sit at a table minding their own business
as her sister drops the drink, her father stumbles in drunk and
smacks her right across the face.

Abigail (V.O)
After she left he got into some money problems and was gone a lot
of the time. I met a guy, he was so sweet at first. He said he
would take care of me. Buy me things, make my life better.

Abigail meets the man who would kick start her addiction, soon
enough shell be partying and having the time of her life. Next,
shell be a lifeless husk of pills and alcohol abuse.

Abigail(V.O)
I started partying, big time. It was so fun, we go dancing and
then one night we were drunk. I had a headache, he told me to
take some pills. To my surprise, they were a lot stronger than
Ibuprofen. I felt great, and by great, I mean I felt nothing.

Abigails montage of drinking and partying ending with her

sitting down with a massive headache and her boyfriend giving
her a couple pills.

Abigail
Think about that, for once, I felt nothing. Instead of feeling
everything all the damn time. I started taking them all the time.
He would always have them for me.

Abigail (V.O)
I couldnt feel anything, I couldnt cry and I couldnt care for
anyone or anything. I wanted to stop, I wanted to feel alive
again. All the feelings that I had cursed so much were what made
me feel alive.

Abigail
He just up and left one day without a word. Now I just want to
feel something Anything.
Tara
Abigail, thank you so much for sharing honey. I hope it all works
out for you. Drew, how about you go next.

Drew
Alright, my name is Drew, and I am a cocaine addict.

Camera Fades: Office

A stock office, Drew is a financial consultant in the prime of
his career.

Drew (V.O)
I was a financial consultant, I made a lot of money advising
people on their stock purchases.
I had been making just over $90,000 a year. But I felt
invincible, I was on a mountain no one could knock me off of. I
was wrong.

Scene: Office
Drew has been hard at work consulting his clients and is proud of
his work. Everyone praises him on his efforts.

Scene Change: Drews Office

Drew comes into his office, pulls a tiny bag of coke out of his
pocket and sits and snorts it all. He proceeds to work on his
paperwork in his office.

Camera seems to sit at the office door overnight in a time lapse

fashion. People speed through the doors and Drew standing out
from the crowd hurries in to his first consulting meeting.

Drews day seems to repeat, except for this time around a lot
more setbacks seem to happen and it ends with another bag of
coke.

This scene repeats, except for much slower and Drew is visibly
coming down from his constant high.

Drew (V.O)
I was coming down hard one day, and I just flipped. I hadnt had
any. I needed another high just to get me going you know. Before
my first meeting I had to get high. Thats when I screwed up

Drew gets his early high and heads to his meeting.

Camera sits at the door he enters, and he leaves with screams
yelling at him in the background. Drews boss catches up with
him. Fires him on the spot

Drew
Now Im broke, I dont have any money. I dont have anything, I
went from something to nothing..I wanna get better so I get my
life back on track. I need to get better..

Tara
Thank you Drew, we are all praying for you and we will help you
to recovery. Alright Jaylen, you are the last one this evening,
would you like to share?

Jay
Alright, well my name is Jaylen, but most people call me Jay and
I am a crack addict and I used to sling it from time to time.
I grew up on Prospect Avenue, I lived with my momma and my lil
sister.

I ain't never had no pops, so my momma was the one who was
feeding me and clothing me.

Fade In: Low Income Neighborhood

A neighborhood filled with broken homes and broke families.
Domestic violence and drug abuse is a common tethering for the
families that live here.

Jay (V.O)
We were broke as hell. My momma got sick when I was about 16.
That left me to support the family and put my sis through school.

Scene Change: Grove Street

Jay (V.O)
My friends were selling dope up at the Fifeville park off Grove
Street, making hella cash. They told me to help them sell the
products, and Id get my money.

Scene Change: Small Room, Low Lighting

Jay (V.O)
So thats what I did. One day, I was just so out of it my knees
wouldnt hold up any longer and I just caved, I just thought it
would give me a good pick me up. I was working all day and night,
my shitty job during the day and slinging dope by night just to
pay our rent.

Jay is taking his first hit of the poison that will destroy him.

Jay (V.O)
Now Ive been high before, but damn I felt something I aint
never felt before. I felt like I was on a rocket blasting into
space. I had this head rush, but my head had never been more
clear in my life.

Fade in: Meeting, camera pans across the room and stops on Jays
face.

Jay
The thing about crack is that the high comes with the exhale,
those 20 seconds after are the best. Kind of like bells in your
ears, thats when you know you got a good hit.
The tingles up and down your body for 20 minutes after a great
hit are the best although that only lasts after the first few
hits, then you gotta keep doing more just to feel normal to
avoid the comedown. When youre smoking for more than 24 hours
just to feel normal, trust me its the dirtiest feeling in the
world.
Camera pans across the room, everyone appears in shock. Even,
Abigail.
Jay
But Yeah, thats why I started coming here after I got clean. I
cant tell ya how many nights I spent in a cell cuz of this
stuff.
*Everyone Starts Clapping*

Tara
Thank you Jay for sharing your story. I would like to thank
everyone for sharing their stories,it takes a lot of heart to
come out here and do this. I would like to thank everyone for
coming out this evening. There is coffee and donuts for everyone,
if you wish to chat for a while after.
