14th /15th April 2017 - EASTER OCTAVE -THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD
Dear Parishioners,

Many people say: life is about experiences. Im fortunate to have had some amazing life experiences.
Thirteen summers ago, I worked and travelled around America. During my travels I went surfing, sand-
dune buggying, white-water-rafting, hiked mountains, explored the Grand Canyon, stayed in a cowboy
ranch, and even did a sky-dive and a bungee jump (in the same day!). However, none of these experiences
compares to the experience of the risen Jesus Christ in my life.

I - like all of you, I imagine - have been through difficulties. The times I placed my trust in him during these
difficulties, I experienced his amazing risen power. However, it wasnt easy to trust him during those times.
I suppose it was a bit like doing a bungee jump and sky dive. There are fewer things more unnatural than
sticking your head outside a plane at 30,000 feet, or leaning your body over the edge of a platform 173 feet
above a swimming pool with your feet bound. I did these things not because I had a previous experience of
it working, but because other people had done it before and
survived to tell me how amazing it was.

I suppose its the same as experiencing the risen Jesus.

Trusting him does not feel natural. It is very scary, but
amazing. Once I had experienced the risen Jesus, I no longer
wanted to seek the experiences the world and my
contemporaries sought: money, fame, a nice car, the perfect
relationship, the perfect job, exciting holidays. I wanted to
tell other people about Jesus Christ, and the amazing things
he can do in their lives too.

Jesus resurrection happened 2000 years ago. But Jesus is

still alive! He is in heaven constantly willing everyone to
experience his power to rise from every possible human situation: bereavement, illness, financial
problems, marriage difficulties, problems with studies at school, psychological problems, addictions, anger,
jealousy, hopelessness. Jesus raises up everyone who surrenders their lives to him.
Catholic Christian faith is an amazing experience of Jesus as a personal saviour. It involves making the same
leaps of faith that sticking our heads out of a plane, and leaning our body weight over a high platform
involves. Instead of planes and tall buildings, this faith experience could be finding new and creative ways
to express love to our loved ones, forgiving people at home, work or school, making more time to pray,
joining a bible prayer group in the parish, doing some voluntary work, giving more money to the Church for
her mission to evangelise, or to a charity. This new way of life might be scary, but life is about experiences.
Why not experience the risen Jesus Christ in a new and deeper way?

I pray you experience, even more so, the power of Jesus resurrection today and throughout the whole of
the Easter season, by asking him for help in your life, and by making a new personal commitment to follow
him. I invite you to become the risen Jesus to people by sharing the Good News of the power of his
resurrection that you have experienced to them this week.

Wishing you abundant Easter blessings,

Fr Damian
