Treatment
Aratioofdividingthetransversediameterofthechestbytheanteroposteriordiameter
ofmorethan3.2(theHallerIndex)maybeanindicationforcorrectivesurgery,now
oftenperformedlaparoscopicallyandutilizingminimallyinvasivesurgery
MoreprecisechestmeasurementscanbeobtainedwithCTscanningthan
conventionalradiography


PectusExcavatumDeformity.Onthefrontalprojection,thereisanaccentuated,downwardorientationoftheloweranterior
ribs(redarrow).Theheartappearsenlargedbutpartofthatappearanceistheresultofcompressionoftheheart,seen
betteronthelateralview.Therightheartborderisindistinct.Onhelateralview,thelowersternumisdepressedinward
(whitearrow),compressingtheheartbetweenitandthespine.
