Claim D: Students who play musical instruments have higher CGPA than those who do
not with a 95% confidence interval

In this section, we asked the students if they played any musical instrument and what is their
CGPA. The assumption is students who play musical instruments would score better
academically, which leads to a higher CGPA.

To test the claim, the Independent Sample test is used to compare the means of CGPA of both
categories at 5% significance level.

F test
Step 1:
H0: Y = N
H1: Y N (claim)

Step 2:
= 0.05
F = 2.774

Step 3:
p-value of F = 0.098

Step 4:
Do not reject H0 since p-value >

Step 5:
There is not enough evidence to support H1.
Hence, the variance is equal.

T test

Step 1:

H0: Y - N = 0

H1: Y - N > 0 (claim)

Step 2:
= 0.05
t = 1.490

Step 3:
p-value = 0.139

Step 4:
Do not reject H0 since p-value >

Step 5:
There is not enough evidence to support H1
Therefore, the students that plays musical instruments do not have higher CGPA than
those that does not.

Claim E: There is a correlation between the number of hours students spend on playing
musical instruments and the average hours spend on studying.

We believe the number of hours student spend on playing musical instruments will reflect on
the average hours they spend on studying. We are acting on the assumption that there is a
positive relationship between the two variables whereby the less hours they spend playing
musical instruments, the less hours spend on studying.

To test the claim, the Correlation of Coefficient and Linear Regression analysis were
conducted.

Description:
Based on the scatter plot above, the plot shows a weak negative relationship between the
number of hours students spend playing musical instrument weekly and the average number
of hours studying daily, which rejects our initial hypothesis.

To determine the strength of this relationship, we analyzed its correlation of coefficient

Correlation of Coefficient, r = -0.008

The result from this analysis has shown that although there is a negative relationship between
the two variables, the strength of it is weak. We continued to analyze whether there is a
significant relationship between them through the significance test, = 0.05
Step 1:
H0: p = 0
H1: p 0

Step 2:
= 0.05, d.f. = 120 2 = 118
C.V. (PPMC Table) = 0.195
Rejection Region: Reject H0 if r > 0.195 or r < -0.195

Step 3:
r = 0.275

Step 4:
Reject H0 as r falls within rejection region.

Step 5:
There is enough evidence to support H1.
Hence, there is a significant relationship between the two variables.

To further test the claim, we conducted the Linear Regression analysis to determine the linear
regression equation.

a = 2.853 b = -0.013

From the table, we can determine the linear regression equation is = 2.853 - 0.013x

From this equation, every one hour increase in time spent on playing musical instrument,
there is a decrease in 0.013 hours in the average time spent on studying.

Claim F: The mean of maximum price spent on musical instruments is equal among
students with different musical preference.
We wanted to know if the average maximum price students are willing to spend on a musical
instrument is equal among different musical preference.

To test the claim, we conducted the ANOVA analysis at 5% significance level.

Maximum price students would pay to purchase a musical instrument

Step 1:
H0: N =P = R= C= J = R (Claim)
H1: At least one of the means is different from the others.

Step 2:
F= 0.182

Step 3:
p-value = 0.969
= 0.05

Step 4:
Do not reject H0 as p-value >

Step 5:
There is not enough evident to support H1.
Hence, the claim is true. The mean of maximum price spent on musical instruments is
equal among students with different musical preference.
