I am writing on behalf of Nicole Lavely, to recommend her for a position at your school
as a teacher in the field of Visual Arts. I had the opportunity to work with Nicole as her site
teacher during her student teaching experience within the 2016-2017 School year at Taylorsville
High School at the Granite School District in Salt Lake City Utah.
I have had several student teachers during the course of my career and I can say
unequivocally that I have never met someone as prepared to teach as Nicole. All of her lessons
correspond to the state and national standards, are pedagogically sound, and engage different
types of learners. She accounts for those who need accommodations as well as extensions
and provides for their needs. Nicole focuses on the individual student, taking time to learn their
name, their history and their needs. She handles class discipline with maturity and grace. To
watch her teach is like being in the presence of someone that has years of experience, not
Nicole is ambitious and dedicated to the craft of being an art teacher. She demonstrates
this by her willingness to invest her personal time into being the most prepared that she can be.
She also takes time to be involved in the local art making community. She is a distinguished
artist in her own right and works with various community organizations to teach artmaking to
children of all ages. She has presented at the Utah Art Education Association Conference and
has applied to present at the National Art Education Association Conference as well. She is
dedicated to the idea of increasing her knowledge and experience through professional
been so impressed by her enthusiasm, her willingness to accept feedback, as well as her ability
to collaborate both within the art department as well as with teachers from other content areas.
She has helped me personally to generate new ideas and approaches to teaching artmaking.
I cannot recommend Nicole Lavely enough for this position. She will be an assett to any
