India had always been a land of difference where discrimination exists on the basis of

caste, in earlier time people were discriminated on the basis of their caste, creed and
religion but after the independence of India and enactment of our constitution
provisions were made in favor of those who were discriminated and provisions were
made to punish those who discriminate against them. After independence India
declares itself as a secular state which means that it dont support any religion and
will not tolerate any bias on the basis of caste system.

And it is embedded in our fundamental rights that no person can be discriminated on

the basis of caste, color and religion and state has power to make provisions in favor
of group of people who it feels were discriminated in past and need support from the
state to come at par with others, and Article 16 of our constitution clearly states that in
matters of public employment, no discrimination shall be made on grounds of race,
religion, caste or language etc. By this it put each and every citizen on equal footing
regarding government employment. Apart from this Article 25 provides freedom of
religion to every individual, it states out that members of religious minority
community have the unhindered right to follow their own religion, and they dont
only have the right to follow but also to promote their religion. And other rights which
include managing religious affairs which empowers people of minority communities
to manage institutions owned by them and all affairs regarding those, these rights are
given under Article 25-28. In furtherance to these article 30 provides minorities with a
special rights which is to establish and administer educational institutions of their
choice. The state also cannot discriminate against educational institutions established
and managed by the minorities in matter of granting aids.

In addition to all these rights to remove the discrimination economically and socially
from our society our constitution also provides for reservation under article 16(4)
which states that nothing in this article can prevent the state from making special
provisions for the benefit of minority communities.

But after all these efforts from our state there still exists some discrimination in
society against minority classes though it had been reduced a lot but not wiped out
completely. The hardship of removing discrimination is still in process and keeping in
mind the positive steps taken by the state and provisions of our constitution we can
hope for a better future where each and every person is equal in the society.
