In my school district there are multiple programs for ELL students. Provided in

every school are the push-in or pull-out methods. There are qualified instructors

who help ELL students, many of them speaking one of the top 10 most common

languages in my district. Whether a school uses the push-in or pull-out method

depends on how many ELL students there are in the classroom. If there are many,

the push-in method is preferred because the teacher can help many students at

once by circulating the room. If there a few students who are ELLs, then the pull-out

method is used.

In my district, there are 4 schools with a Bilingual Orientation Center (BOC).

My elementary school is one of the schools. The BOC provides developmental

bilingual education in separate classrooms. Students are usually moved into

mainstream classrooms after a year or two in the BOC program. My district also has

4 dual language immersion schools. These schools teach everything in 2 languages.
