Tourism is negatively effect Laos.

Introduction

Tourism is when people travel and stay in the places that they never leave. It can be

international and domestic. Laos is the country that gets attention from the tourism. It attracts

many tourists to travel to Laos because Laos is plenty of natural environments. Besides, Laos

has a lot of places that reflects on the history and interesting culture. Laos became a tourism

attraction. According to the years 2558, tourists travelled to Laos about 4.33 million people.

When the tourists travel to Laos, they do not care about the effect of the country. They care

only their enjoyment and entertainment. It is important to understand the cause of the

problem and how to solve the problem. Otherwise, Laos will get the negative effect from

tourism because it is not their country and people usually neglect. Laos can get the negative

effects on the environment and society due to three factors: wildlife, fashion, and income.

Tourism is negatively effect Laos.

Laos wildlife

Tourism has a negative impact on Laos wildlife. While tourists have a trip, they will

get closer to the animal and feed them. It makes the natural behavior and future of animal

change. According to Watson (2015), Nature-conservationist around the globe had been

worried about the impact on wildlife that activities such as whale-watching and safaris had. A

recorded of more than one billion tourists had traveled internationally in 2014. With the rise o

f amount of tourists, the amount of activities involving the animals also increased.

Many wildlife tourisms come to see the natural environment. Moreover, if the many wildlife

tourisms come to feed them and get closer, the natural behaviors and future of animal will be

bad because they learn new ways to survive. Also if human do not feed them, they will not be

able to find the food by themselves. Another thing is that tourists buy products that made

from animals. According to Dawn Starin (2011), An honorary research associate at

University College London said that tourisms buy a commercial paraphernalia that made

from wildlife in Laos are make the natural environment get destroys. In 2007, Laos received

over 1.5 million tourisms. By 2015, it is estimated that there will be 2.2 million and 3 million

in 2020 are buying animal product. 1.5% of all those who travelled abroad over the last five

years. Tourists who come home with some of animal products risk heavy fines and jail terms

if they are caught with them at the airport. Wildlife tourism wants to buy the wildlife dishes,

or buy trinkets made from animal products from Laos are increasing every year. Tourists are

interested about wildlife dishes or buy trinkets made from animal. The sellers have to kill

more animals to made products. Some product is made from preserve animal and it makes the

amount of animal decrease or it makes the animal extinct. The average of two evidence show

that when wildlife tourism traveling to Laos, it makes animals hard to lives in natural places

and die from tourism feed them. From made the animal product, the amount of animal will be

decreased because of killing the animal or cutting some part of the body. This is the reason

why tourism bring only negative effect to Laos.

Social

When the tourists travel to Laos, they bring the fashion and new confinement .It

makes the local people change the community and influences behaviors and family life. Acco

rding to Glenn Kreag (2001), An extension educator and professor with the Minnesota Sea

Grant Program, tourism can come to a community with a dark social and cultural side as well.

Illegal activities tend to augment in the relaxed atmosphere of tourist areas. Increased undera

ge drinking can become a problem especially in beach communities, areas with festivals invol

ving alcohol, and ski villages. Tourism is enjoying and entertaining the most as possible. Th

e tourism does not care much about local culture impact in the tourist interested. When the to

urists come to Laos, the local people want to follow what tourists do. By seeing the activity th

at tourism do and it makes local people want to do it such as drug abuses, prostitution, increas

ed crime rates, friction between tourists and native traditional cultures change, and the way lo

cal people live. Acording to Kongfa Phoummasak(2014) , Ph.D Candidate of National Unive

rsity of Laos (NUOL), the foreign cultures have influence Laos greatly, be it hair dying, non-t

raditional body tattoos, short pants worn in place of Laotian traditional skirts and dances that

were considered inappropriate by Laotian standards. These were the main reasons that cause

Laotians to lose their identity through the effect of tourism. Foreign fashion has spread out qu

ickly. For example, Laoss teenagers like to wear the short skirt or short pants to go to the tem

ple. So, it is not suitable to wear. Or body tattooing on private parts of the body. If it is always

like this, the local people will forget the own traditional and do not care about suitability. Fro

m the two evidences on the top show that when the tourism traveling to Laos, the local people

will follow the tourism from seeing the tourism, it makes local people loss the original thinki

ng or the way the local people live change in negative way. Laoss traditional will disappear a

nd the modern of fashion or bad behavior of tourism will replace. That is the reason that touri

sm effects Laos social in negative way.

Income

While the tourists travel to Laos, the income of the local people will be increased by

the amount of the tourism. However, some local people are greedy and they increase the price

of products for everyone in the country. According to Teresa Cederholm(2014) is the World T

ravel and Tourism Council (or WTTC) , a group of Travel & Tourism CEOs who felt that the

sectors contribution to economies and job creation was not being recognized. The travel and

tourism industrys total contribution to the global economy rose to $6,990 billion, or 9.5% of

the GDP (gross domestic product), and is expected to grow by 4.3% to $7,289 billion, or 9.6

% of the GDP, in 2014(Cederholm,2014).The growth in travel expenditure was driven by ch

anging lifestyles and higher disposable incomes. The number of tourists helps Laos to increas

e the exchange income, employment opportunities, and stimulate the growth of the tourism in

dustry. It makes Lao economic growth and poverty reduction in Laos. However, their also ha

ve negative impact of economic for the local people. According to Kongfa Phoummasak(201

4), Ph.D Candidate of National University of Laos (NUOL), he believes that tourism makes t

he price of products increase more than usual. From the interview the local people costumer

about the high price of the restaurant. Some local people said, because the tourists invested

restaurants that are overpriced. They cannot go to restaurants. The sellers increase the price of

products more than usual price for tourism. It makes local people cannot buy it because the pr

ice is too expensive. Still, the tourism can effect the local people also.The country gets the be

nefit from tourism from selling the products that make people get more income from travellin

g. The bad thing is the sellers will include the local people with the tourism and sell the produ

cts over price. It shows that tourism is good for economic, but also can cause the problem.

Conclusion

To sum up, tourism is negatively effect Laos. Tourism has a negative impact on Laos

wildlife, social, and economic. The above evidences are supported by a lot of great PhD.

professor and researchers. They strongly believe that local people will get the negative effect

from the tourism. Apart from this, news also shows that a number of travellers who make a

purchase the products that made from animals are increasing considerably every year. They

also believe that tourism will destroy the original traditional, culture, and wild life. It is

important for local people to know and be aware the cause of the problem and the effect. It

will make local people understand more and find the way to solve the problem. If the local

people take it for granted about the effect, the things that Lao create or original things will be

disappeared and be replaced by the influences of other countries.
