English For All CLASS NAME: Low Intermediate

Lesson Objectives 1. Students will be review the aliments that they have learned from the
previous class, and have a more solid grasping ground with the
vocabulary that have been introduced.
2. Students will be discussing common treatment towards the
symptoms that associate with the ailments.
3. Students will learn about medical words that are commonly seen
such as prescription, dose, syringe, etc.
4. Students will be listen to a conversation thats associate with the
topic and be able to understand it.

Procedures Note: NOTE: the numbered titles are all bold faced. All other bold-faced
words are to be written on the blackboard. Words in quotations are to
be spoken by the teacher. Materials are underlined. Include the time
allotted for each activity.

1. Warming up: Hot seat game (Time allotted: 5-10 minutes )


Objective: Students will be reviewing the vocabulary they learned from
previous class with a game.

Hello everyone, welcome back to class and I hope everyone had a nice
weekend. To start off todays class, we will first reviewing some of the
vocabulary that you guys have learned from Kacie with a game called
Hot seat

An empty chair will be pulled up to the front facing the audience as the
Hot seat. A student will be sit in the hot seat face the audience
(cannot look at the screen or board), the teacher will be showing
pictures that correspond with vocabulary that they learned from
previous class (one at a time). The audiences will trying to either
describing or acting out what is happening in the picture, and see if the
student in the hot seat can guess what the word is. The student with the
most correct words wins.

Transition: Nice job everyone, you guys are really killing it with those
words. When we are not feeling well, we want to do something to make
the symptoms go away right? So lets talk about what we can do to take
care of ourselves when the sickness really happens.

2. Listening activity (Time allotted: 15-20 minutes)


Objectives: students will be discuss possible things that they can do in
the time of their sickness, and listen to the conversation answering
some questions.

Pre-listening: what are some home remedies do you have at our home
in your country for the following illness or situations?

Cold
Stomachache
Hangover
Hiccups
Sore throat
Fever

While-listening: passing out the listening activity questions, ask


students to look at the questions before the audio is played, the audio
will be played as many time as needed to help students understand the
recording.

Post-listening: students will be asked to answer the questions, and go


over the answers as a whole class.

Transition: Great job everyone on your listening activities. Well, you


know those home remedies sometimes works really well, but
sometimes when we are getting really sick, or we want to get better
soon, we do need to go to the doctor and seek some professional help.
Now we will be learning some common vocabulary that are often used
in a doctor's office.

3. Introducing Medical terms (Time allotted: 15-20 minutes)


Objectives: Students will be learning new terms that are commonly
used in hospital, and understand what they means.

Transition: Great! These are the terms that are commonly used when
you go to a hospital. Now here I have a little exercise to see how you
guys are doing with the new terms that we just learned.

4. Vocabulary assessment (Time allotted: 5-10 minutes)


Objectives: students will be assessed on the vocabulary that they just
learned from the previous section.

Passing out the vocabulary worksheets and ask the students to work on
these individually, then go over the answers as whole class.

Transition: Well done everyone, Im very proud of you guys. Now since
you guys have been such good students, lets play another game
together.

5. Vocabulary categories game (Time allotted: 10-15 minutes)


Objectives: this game is designed to check students comprehension of
the vocabulary by putting them into the correct categories they are
belong.

The board will be divided into four sections with each name of the
category written on the top Medical people, Medical places, Medical
treatment, Medical equipment Students will be given out random cards
with the words, and come up to the board, trying to put the words into
correct category within a limited time period.

Closing: Great job today everyone!! Im very happy with the progress
that you guys made. Thats all I have for today. Arden will be your
instructor for Thursdays class, Ill see you all next week.
Assessment Students will be assessed on their knowledge of the vocabulary with
the worksheet, and the game at the end.
Students will be assessed on their listening comprehension with the
listening activity.

Anticipated Students might not feel motivated to participate


Problems Students might have trouble to understand the recording
The activity might need to be adjusted if we got a small number of
students.
