to strengthen writing as needed.
Theme: Informative Writing: Animal Research

Lesson Topic: Informative Writing: Final Copy

Objectives:
Language: Students will be able to use their revision checklists and any added detail to
create a final copy of their writing.

Content: Students will be able to share important facts about their chosen animal through
writing.

Learning Strategies: Modeling, sentence frames, repetition, body movement/hand

gestures

Key Vocabulary: introduction, informative sentence, size, habitat, diet, conclusion,

revisions, details, final copy

Materials: revision checklist, rough drafts with revisions, final copy paper, pencils,
teachers example writing piece and revision checklist

Motivation: I will begin by telling the students how happy I am to see their revisions
and how well they worked in partners to make their writing even better. I will review the
checklist with the students, reviewing what each section means and why it is important to
make those revisions. Next I will tell students that they will be writing their final copy
today which means this is their best work and will be ready to share with others who are
interested in learning about their chosen animals.

Presentation:
Read each sentence of example writing piece and point out revisions that were made to
strengthen it. Show students that the rough draft is messy and could be confusing for
someone to read. Explain to students that is why they need to rewrite their paper as a
final copy. Rewrite each sentence on new paper, discussing revisions and adding them
into the final copy. When complete, reread rough draft and then final copy. Discuss with
students how the revisions and added detail made it better.
Practice/Application: Have students work independently to copy their writing
onto final copy paper. Early finishers may begin drawing a picture of their animal to
match their chosen topic.
Review/Assessment: Check that students understand the task by observing their
work. Take notice of students revisions and editing and how they are strengthening their
work.
Allow volunteers to share their rough draft and final copy with the class. Allow for
comments and questions.
