X. Rationale

Reading is the single most important skill that a student learns in school. It
unlocks the door to knowledge and is the gateway to learning other subjects. If student
cannot read effectively, they will encounter difficulty with Social Studies, Sciences, and
even Mathematics.

Many schools, both private and public, can have a large percentage of students
who have been determined to be at risk in their reading performance for a variety of
reasons. If these students are not given an opportunity to improve their reading, as
studies show, more likely to be truant and drop out of school and later present a strain
on the system. This academic scenario requires every school to develop a plan to
improve reading skills of students and implement appropriate remediation techniques.

It is then on this discipline that the offering of this summer reading camp program
of Rotonda National High School is concerned. Its primary goal is to help Grade Seven
and Grade eight students with poor reading skills learn to read and increase their
reading speed, comprehension, and reading attention span.
