Executive Summary
The main purpose of writing this tender submission is to convince the designers from
other groups, which is Brumalindesh Tech. to choose our group, Lannister to build
their design. We can prove it through our meticulous understanding to their design
package. We can also prove that we are capable enough to handle the design based on
our skills and experiences.
Group Brumalindesh Tech. should consider this tender submission aside from other
groups because we can show that we meet all the evaluation criteria required by
Group Brumalindesh Tech. This is proven by the evidence that we provided
modifications and new ideas to their design. We also show that our understanding of
the design package by trying to reduce the overall cost by replacing some materials
and tools. This is evident by a list of modifications which have already been sent to
designers of Group Brumalindesh Tech. Moreover, we showed our professionalism by
the punctuality to every meeting. We also responded to all the messages, emails and
calls within 10 minutes. Our group is supposed to be chosen among all groups
because we proved ourselves that we are volunteering to do tasks by preparing the
minutes of meeting and calling out a meeting.
With respect to the materials part, the superglue is used to connect the air bubble wrap
which originally was transparent plastic sheets. However, with our concern, we
suggest using hot glue gun instead of superglue. Hot glue gun is more dangerous
compared to the hot glue gun. Superglue will cause minor skin irritation and also it
takes a longer time to take off compared to the hot glue gun. The price of hot glue gun
is cheaper than the superglue, evident by the table of costs of materials.
In respond to the design package, we can see that the design is efficient and
functional. However, there are some modifications from us to improve the designing
of the car. First, the metal stick used to build the axle can be replaced by satay
sticks and stick with thick hot glue gun. The reason of using satay sticks is because
satay sticks are recycled materials and they are easier to handle. The metal stick has
to be twisted until it breaks and may not straight after twisted. It is suggested to use
plastic balloon stick too. Secondly, the height of the fiberboard box can be reduced so
the car is more stable. This is because the center of gravity is lower. It will be more
stable when it is rolling down because the upper part of the car is heavier. The
transparent plastic sheets can also be replaced by air bubble wrap in order to reduce
the cost.
In conclusion, group Lannister is confident to take the design package from group
Brumalindesh Tech. And guarantee to construct the perfect model of the car. It is
evident by our thorough understanding of the design package which is the results
from our teamwork.

1.0 Introduction
This document consists of the tender submission from group Lannister in response to
the design package of group Brumalindesh Tech. This tender submission contains the
design package review and the response to the tender evaluation criteria that has been
set by group Bumalindesh Tech.
Design package is presented to prove that group Lannister has a thorough and
meticulous understanding about the design package of group Bumalindesh Tech. with
evidence provided.
The design is a Mars Rover which has a double layer. Milk carton is used to make the
upper part of the body. Fiberboard box is used to make the bottom part of the body.
The most bottom part will be the 3 axles and 6 tires. We will look through part by
part.
First, we will look at the upper part of the body. As mentioned above, milk carton is
used as the material to build the upper part of the body. The milk carton is cut opened
and stuck together again so to reduce the dimension of the milk carton to (60 x 73 x
245) mm. The top part is cut opened. 6 windows with size (50.7x40.0)mm are cut at
both sides of the milk carton, 3 on each side. And 1 rear window with size (48x47)mm
is cut. 2 pieces of air bubble wrap with size (230x55)mm are cut and stuck on the
inner walls of the milk carton. 1 piece of air bubble wrap with size (60x55)mm is cut
and paste on the inner wall of the milk carton for the rear window. 2 Velcro straps
with size (13x200)mm are attached between the windows as seat belts to hold the
mineral water bottle. A cuboid sponge with dimensions (50 x 50 x 25) mm is stuck on
the inner wall of the milk carton to act as a shock absorber.
The second part is the bottom part of the body. A cuboid fiberboard box with
dimensions (285x160x80)mm is formed. Holes are poked through the fiberboard box
to insert the axles. The last part will be the axles and the tires. For tires, 6 foams with
size (50x25)mm are cut into a circle shape. Balloons are used to wrap the foams. 3
satay sticks are stuck together using hot glue gun to form 1 axle. The axle poked
through the foam tire then inserted through the lower body and finally poked through
another foam tire again.
For the last part, the upper part and lower part of the body is connected by using hot
glue gun.
Based on the client brief, the design of the car is a prototype of Mars Rover. There are
some criteria requested from the client to be accomplished. First, the Mars Rover has
to be able to carry cargo. This is evident by the material used to support the 600ml
mineral water bottle is the fiberboard box which is strong enough. Table 2.2.1 shows
the list of materials and the function of the materials.
Materials Functions
Table 2.2.1
Second, the 600ml mineral water bottle has to be assessed remotely. Thus, the Mars
Rover is required to be free wheeling. In order to match these 2 criteria, the design of
group Brumalindesh Tech.is perfectly designed. The upper part of the milk carton is
cut opened. Moreover, Velcro straps are used to support the 600ml mineral water
bottle so it will not fall out from the milk carton. So, it is easy for the contractors to
assess the 600ml mineral water bottle. There are 3 axles in the design so it fulfills the
criteria of having at least 2 axles. These are evident by the design sketches from group
Brumalindesh Tech. which contained in Appendix 1.0.
Table 2.2.2 shows the dimensions of the design. The dimensions have fully satisfied
two of the client compliance which is the height of Mars Rover must less than
210mm.
7
Table 2.2.2
Third, the overall cost of the design is less than Rm 30 and recycled materials are
widely used in the design such as satay sticks, air bubble wrap and milk carton.
Table 2.2.3 shows the list of recycled materials to prove that the design matches the
criteria required. The list of costs of materials is attached in Appendix 2.0.
Materials Functions
Table 2.2.3
The second concern is the dimensions of the air bubble wraps and also the windows.
For example, the dimensions of the rear window are (60x55)mm. The dimensions of
the air bubble wrap are also (60x55)mm. The dimensions of both window and air
bubble wrap are the same and so no space to put the hot glue to paste the air bubble
wrap onto the inner wall of the milk carton. For this concern, our group suggested
enlarging the dimensions of the air bubble wrap to (70x65)mm for the rear window
and (240x65)mm for the side windows. This is to ensure the dimensions of the air
bubble wrap are slightly larger than the windows so there is space to attach the hot
glue.

Tender
Evaluation
Criteria
10
3.0 Criteria
In this section, group Lannister will provide evidence to show that we are qualified to
meet the tender evaluation criteria that set by group Brumalindesh Tech.
3.1 Communication
Group Lannister has performed really well to prove these criteria. This is evident by
the emails and messages sent between group Lannister and group Brumalindesh Tech.
One day after the Engineering Foundations- Principles and Communication (EFPC)
lecture, the contractors from group Lannister has immediately contacted the designers
from group Brumalindesh Tech. To call out for a meeting. This is evident by the
screenshot of the email sent to group Brumalindesh Tech. which attached
as Appendix 3.0 The language used was formal and polite.
Thus, the contractor always replies the messages within 10 minutes. If she replied
late, she will apologize to the designers. And she immediately contacted and updated
the designers once her task has been done. The contractor also questioned and
reminded the designers when she realized that the distance between the axles is
missing. This is proved by the screen shot of Whatsapp conversation in Appendix
4.0.
Group Lannister has always attended punctually in every tutorials and meeting. On
6th of April 2017, contractors from group Lannister and designers from group
Brumalindesh Tech. held a meeting at Wan Gastro at 6 p.m. The contractors have
arrived on time right after the class although the class before had extended. The class
ended at 6.20p.m. and they arrived for meeting at 6.23p.m. This can be proved by the
screen shot of Whatapps conversation in Appendix 5.0.
Thus, the tenderers attended all the meetings which held in every week punctually
and no one would ever absent. This is shown in Appendix 6.0. which is the copy of
the minutes of meeting. They attended all the tutorials and lectures on time which can
be proved by the attendance list of each unit.
11
3.3 Participation
Group Lannister has great advantages on this criteria as every member is willing to do
the task voluntarily. For example, each member takes the turn to complete the weekly
progress report and minutes of meeting. This is proven by the record of weekly
progress reports and minutes of meeting which included in Appendix 6.0 and 7.0.
In Appendix 6.0, it shows that each member is brainstorming in giving ideas to build
a functional and perfect prototype of Mars Rover. All members are actively
participating themselves in the project so to achieve high distinction in the unit.
Moreover, contractors are willing to give suggestions to the design package of group
Brumalindesh Tech. They prepared a list of modifications to the design and the design
package before the meeting. The list of modifications is included in Appendix 8.0.
Thus, contractor reminded the designers from group Brumalindesh Tech. when they
realized a mistake in design package. The Whatsapp conversation is included
in Appendix 4.0. as an evidence for it.
The prototype must be built within the budget which is RM 30. Recycled materials
are highly encouraged to use because it will save more costs. Tenderers are
required to obtain the materials within the budget and also from recycled materials.
In the design package of group Brumalindesh Tech., they have already used recycled
materials in some parts, for example, the wheel and the upper part of the body. The
overall cost is RM 21.40 which is within the budget RM 30.
Group Lannister has provided some suggestions to the design. This reduces the total
cost of the design as well. First, they replaced the metal stick to satay stick. In the
table of the list of materials and costs which included in Appendix, the metal stick is
obtained from the hangers which they have to buy from Supersave. In the case of
using satay sticks, it is recycled materials so the price will be lower.
Secondly, group Lannister has suggested of using air bubble wraps instead of the clear
plastic sheets. Air bubble wraps can be obtained from recycled materials as well as
one of the contractors in group Lannister has the air bubble wraps with her.
The last suggestion is using the hot glue gun instead of superglue. The cost of hot glue
is cheaper than the superglue in reference to the List of materials
and costings which is available in Blackboard and also in Appendix 9.0
This shows that group Lannister is capable of fulfilling these tender evaluation
criteria. 12
Tenderers are preferable to have basic knowledge about physics and constructing.
This is to ensure that the tenderers understand the construction methods and the
designs thoroughly.
Group Lannister has the confidence to handle the design package from group
Brumalindesh Tech. Contractors and designers obtained a good grade in Physics
during SPM. They obtained A+ for physics subject.
Thus, they have experiences in constructing. One of the contractors had participated
in Carbon Dioxide Car Designs in the year 2013. She obtained the champion in this
competition. Moreover, one of the designers has participated in Physics Exhibition
Curtin University Malaysia 2016. This shows that group Lannister is capable of
handling the design.
The contractors have also given some modifications to the design. They suggested
that the height of fiberboard box should be reduced. This is to ensure the center of
gravity of the prototype is always low. This increases the stability of the prototype
when it is sliding down from the slope. This is proven in the list of modifications
which included in Appendix 8.0.

Agenda
DISCUSSION
For the wheels of the car, approximately 1.5cm thick of polystyrene will be included between 2 old CDs per
wheel. Then, the wheels will also be wrapped with a layer of rubber material. Smaller wheels were suggested for
the front part of the car.
For the axles, bamboo chopsticks were recommended. Bottle caps and blue tack were proposed to connect the
bamboo stick and CDs together. Six wheels rather than four were recommended to further increase stability
of car. Springs can be used as shock absorber.
For the body, it will be a rectangle made up of either wood, plastic or egg tray. The front part of the car will be
curved and sponge can be added to reduce impact. Seat belts were suggested to hold the bottle in place.
Hooks can be used to hold axles to the body of the car.
Designers were to meet and design the car using sketch up.
At least two tender evaluation criteria (TEC) and two risks were discussed.

DISCUSSION
Irene, Lai Yin and Mathan discussed about the tender evaluation criteria and came up with five criteria which are
methodology, management skills, professionalism and ethics, teamwork and experience. Each of them prepared
two criteria each prior to the meeting and then they chose five out of the six as our tender evaluation criteria.
Mathan helped to finalize the Tender evaluation criteria and checked the grammar. Lai Yin helped to combine all
the criteria. Designers (Ee Fang, Jackson and Sheryl) will have to go through the criteria and decide if they really
want the five to be the groups TEC.

4. CAR DESIGN
DISCUSSION
Mathan suggested that we attach a block to the body of the car. The block will have an arch in the middle to hold
the bottle to the body. We will use a hinge to combine the block and the body of the car. Then, when the bottle is
placed on the car, the block will clip the bottle to the body of the car. The block will then be secured by a hook like
those on the treasure boxes. Sheryl suggested that we can also use velcro to further secure the bottle to the car.
Jackson, Ee Fang and Sheryl then sketched the car Mathan suggested. Jackson then suggested some modifications
to the car. He suggested that we carve an oval hole to the block we will be using as the car body. This particular
hole will be slightly bigger to fit the 600ml water bottle. This hole is to secure the bottle so that it does not detach
itself from the car during the fall. Members decided to use 4 CDs per wheel with polystyrene in between 2 CDs.
Then, Sheryl suggested the velcro can be used like a seatbelt for the bottle. Jackson also proposed for some sponge
to be glued to the hole to absorb the impact of the fall. Ee Fang modified the velcro idea then sketched the
prototype on paper.

5. CAR MATERIALS
DISCUSSION
For the body of the car, Jackson and Mathan suggested that we used wooden block for the body. The other
members agreed. After deciding on the design of the car, everyone started to brainstorm on the types of materials
to use for the car designs. A wooden block, velcro, rubber bands, sponge, CD, polystyrene and bamboo chopsticks
were suggested as the materials. Materials may change if it is not suitable for the car. Jackson is responsible to
come up with a list and cost estimation of the car.

Cut the milk carton using a pair of scissors along the dotted line as shown in the
diagram. Adjust the height of the milk carton to be 60 mm from bottom and cut off the rest of
the top part for both sides. Then, join back the cut portion and make sure the width of the
cuboid is now 73 mm. Glue the two faces together (shown below) with hot glue gun.
*Note: The milk carton used should be hard and not easily bend and sufficient enough to fit
the Spritzer bottle.

Measure the length of the milk carton to be 245 mm and cut it using a pair of scissors.
At the end, a cuboid of size (60 x 73 x 245) mm is formed. Leave the top part remain open.
Use a pen-knife to cut out the window for the rear, left and right side according to the
dimensions in Table 2.0. Use a scissors to cut 2 pieces of bubble wrapper for the side
windows and 1 for the rear windows and paste them on the inner walls of the milk carton
using hot glue gun. The dimensions for the bubble wrapper are shown in Table 2.0. Cut the
Velcro straps to a dimension of (13 x 200) mm. Stick the Velcro straps in between the
windows (on the outer surface of the milk carton) with a hot glue gun. Make sure it fits
perfectly in between the two windows. Cut the sponge with dimensions of (50 x 50 x 25) mm
using a pair of scissors. Glue the sponge on the inner walls of the front side using a hot glue
gun and make sure it fits perfectly in the middle.

Use a pencil to draw the net of a cuboid with dimensions (60 x 160) mm, (60 x 285)
mm and (285 x 160) mm on the flatFron surface of a fibre board box. Remember to draw
t
extension of the sides and apply hot glue gun on them to stick it on the inner walls of the
cuboids. Using a scissors, cut out the shape. Fold along the dotted lines without damaging the
other parts. Glue the edges together at the stick here to form a cuboid as shown in the
diagram. Use a duct tape for more security. Next, glue the upper body of the mars rover to the
lower body. Make sure the upper body is placed exactly in the middle of the lower body.
*Note: Make sure the fibre board box is sufficient enough to withstand any fall and doesnt
crack or tear.

Firstly, take 2 or more satay sticks and stick them together using hot glue gun. Make sure to
test their strength before using it as an axle. If it is not strong enough, add more satay sticks and stick
them with hot glue gun. Use a nail and hammer to poke holes (big enough to fit the metal rod)
through the fibre board box (lower body) to insert the metal rod through it. Also make a hole in the
foam (tyre). Apply hot glue gun on the tip of the metal rod. Slowly, insert the metal rod fully into the
foam without making it come out the other side. Make sure to not damage the foam. Hold the metal
rod and foam in place for about 2-3 minutes to make sure the hot glue gun has dried properly. Then,

insert the metal rod into the hole made in the fibre board box. Metal rod should then be able to pass
through the fibre board box. Fix the foam (tyre) on the other end of the metal rod by repeating the
steps. The mars rover should be able to roll.
*Safety note: When handling the hammer, make sure to wear gloves to prevent and injuries
on the fingers. Also, make sure to not play around while handling the nails as it might poke
someone.
